Late Homer Dooms Sidewinders

Mike Edwards hammered a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth Wednesday night to lift Sacramento to a 3-2 win over Tucson, avoiding a three-game series sweep at the hands of the Sidewinders.

Tucson had a chance to move within 8.5 games of Sacramento after winning five of the first six games between the two teams.

Edwards home run followed singles by Chris Prieto and Jose Flores to start the eighth off Bret Prinz.

Tucson got on the board in the third inning when Brad Cresse started the frame with a triple and scored on a double by Steve Neal.

Doug Devore increased the lead to 2-0 in the fourth when he doubled in Danny Bautista who started the inning with a double.

Lance Cormier had thrown six scoreless innings to put Tucson in a position to win. Denny Reyes authored a perfect seventh inning

The Sidewinders fell to 46-45. Tucson will continue its ten game road trip Thursday night in Nashville with the first of four against the East Division leading Sounds. Paul Abbott (1-4 6.37) will throw for the Sidewinders against Matt Guerrier (3-6 4.44)
