Round Rock Express News Release

Houston Astros second baseman Jeff Kent is scheduled to fulfill a rehabilitation assignment Friday and Saturday with the Round Rock Express.

Kent was placed on the 15-day disabled list June 27, retroactive to June 19, with tendinitis in his left wrist. Before the injury, Kent was hitting .313 with 11 home runs and 50 RBIs in 69 games for Houston.

Over his 12-year career, Kent has emerged as the premier hitting second baseman in the Major Leagues. He hit .313 with 37 home runs and 108 RBIs for the National League Champion San Francisco Giants in 2002 and capped his season with three homers in the World Series.

Kent was named the National League Most Valuable Player in 2000 with the Giants and has posted six consecutive seasons of over 100 RBIs. The veteran is also one of only two second baseman in Major League history to drive in 120 or more runs multiple times, the other being Rogers Hornsby.

Kent's presence will be a major boost for an Express club that is working with a scaled down roster and is in the midst of a four-game series with West Division leading San Antonio.

Round Rock has been the host of a handful of rehabbing Astros in the past, including Shane Reynolds and Billy Wagner.
