Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Mickey Lopez and Julio Mosquera each hit solo home runs and Pat Borders had two RBIs as the Tacoma Rainiers tallied 16 hits in an 8-3 victory over the Portland Beavers Tuesday night in front of 5,811 at PGE Park.
Ruben Castillo went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored for the Rainiers (40-53), who fell just three hits shy of their season high.
Craig Anderson allowed two runs on six hits in five innings of work for Tacoma to up his season ledger to 6-9.
With the game tied at 2-2, the Rainiers regained the lead on a series of miscues by the Beavers in the fifth. Adrian Meyers led off the inning with a single to center and advanced to second on an error by catcher Ben Risinger, who sailed a throw over second base and into center field when Meyers bluffed stealing the base. The next batter, J.R. Phillips, flew out deep to right; Meyers advanced to third on the fly and scored on an error by Portland shortstop Khalil Greene. An RBI single by Greg Connors, who had three hits on the night, made it 4-2 later in the inning.
Borders made it 6-2 with a two-run single in the sixth and the Rainiers tacked on a pair off Courtney Duncan in the eighth.
Lopez got the Rainiers on the board with a solo home run in the second, his fourth of the year. Mosquera's solo shot in the fourth gave the Rainiers a two-run advantage.
With the Beavers trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Rich Gomez tied things with a two-run home run to center field, his second blast in two nights.
Mark Quinn stroked an RBI single into center field to get the Beavers to within 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh.
Brian Tollberg matched a season high by allowing 12 hits. Tollberg (3-2) yielded six runs in 5.1 innings of work, striking out five.
Tacoma (11) and Portland (10) combined to leave 21 men on base.
Tagg Bozied and Alex Fernandez each had two hits to lead Portland (46-47).
The Beavers wrap up their homestand Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
NOTES: Tuesday was Tagg Bozied's 24th multi-hit game of the season, tying Bernie Castro for most on the team.
