July 9, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Some of state's top high school baseball players will have a chance to showcase their ability on a grand stage as the Oklahoma High School Home Run Derby takes place Saturday, July 12 at SBC Bricktown Ballpark. The event begins at 12 noon.
The event, sponsored by Century 21, brings together 14 players who qualified for the event at regional competition held across the state last month. More than 100 participants were entered in the six regions.
Each player will attempt to hit as many pitches out of SBC Bricktown Ballpark as possible before recording 10 outs. Outs are any hit ball or swing that fails to produce a home run. The ballpark layout is unique in its asymmetrical design with the right and left field lines reaching 325 feet. The power alleys are an inviting 365 feet and straight away center stretches to 400 feet. There are corners and nooks where it takes a 410-foot shot to reach the seats.
The top three hitters will be brought back for the finals competition beginning at 5:15 p.m. The winner will receive a plaque, a ring and $1,000 donation will be given back to their school courtesy of Century 21.
