
Sound Tigers Win 3-2 In Albany

ALBANY, NY - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 road win over the Albany River Rats Saturday.
The teams zipped through a scoreless first period with the Sound Tigers holding a 9-6 shots on goal advantage and each club going 0 for 2 on the power play.
The Sound Tigers took the first lead of the game at 1-0 when Steve Regier scored his third goal of the season, and the weekend, 6:49 into the middle frame off assists from Matt Koalska and Kevin Colley.
The teams traded overlapping penalties mid-way through the second period, and each squad scored in that time. David Hale tied the score for the River Rats at 1-1 with his second marker of the year off assists from Nicklas Bergfors and Ilkka Pikkarainen during a four-on-four situation at the 13:37 mark, but Jeremy Colliton put the Sound Tigers back in front at 2-1 just 1:11 later with his third goal of the season, on the power play, off an assist from Sean Bergenheim.
Bergenheim gave the Sound Tigers the largest lead of the evening at 3-1 with a breakaway goal, his third tally of the year, off an assist from Rob Collins, who is now on a three-game point streak, with 14.6 seconds left in the second period.
Another series of overlapping penalties gave Albany a four-on-three advantage early in the third period, and Pascal Rheaume converted with his first goal of the year off assists from Bryan Miller and Aleksander Suglobov at the 5:21 to cut the lead to 3-2.
The River Rats pulled goaltender Frank Doyle in favor of an extra attacker inside the final minute of play but were unable to tie the score.
Bergenheim was the first star of the game, Hale the second and Colliton the third. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 7 on the power play while Albany was 1 for 10 and had a 31-19 shots on goal advantage. Doyle made 16 saves in a losing effort while Chris Madden improved his record to 2-1 with 29 saves for the Sound Tigers.
The Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of four games in five nights when they host the Binghamton Senators tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. on "Golf Day".
