Norfolk Admirals News Release

Adam Munro made 35 saves, and Nathan Barrett and Carl Corazzini both had two-point games, as the Admirals defeated the Manchester Monarchs 4-2 in Manchester on Saturday night.

Both teams had several scoring chances in the first period, but failed to find the back of the net. Manchester's Barry Brust and Norfolk's Adam Munro both had seven saves in the opening period, and the game was scoreless at the first break.

The Monarchs took the lead nine minutes into the second stanza on the power play. Noah Clarke's slap shot from the point made its way through traffic and behind Munro for a 1-0 lead at 8:52.

However, the Admirals would strike back six minutes later on a man advantage of their own. Brust stopped an Anton Babchuk shot from the point, but left a rebound in the crease. The Monarch goalie denied Carl Corazzini's stuff-attempt, but was unable to do so with Nathan Barrett's shot from the stick-side post. Barrett's third goal of the season tied the game at 1-1 at the 14:43 mark.

Norfolk struck again less than a minute later on a delayed penalty against Manchester. Milan Bartovic passed the puck from behind the net to Nick Kuiper in the slot between the hash marks. Mike Brown deflected Kuiper's shot past Brust for his first goal of the season at 15:39.

However, the Monarchs would even the score with under a minute to play in the middle frame. Noah Clarke deflected a Brad Fast shot past Munro for his second goal of the game with 57 seconds remaining. At the second intermission, the Admirals held a 22-21 edge in shots, and the score was even at 2-2.

Norfolk un-tied the game just 38 seconds into the final frame. Brust stopped a Nathan Barrett shot, but left a rebound at Matt Cullen's feet. Cullen picked up the rebound at the near-side post and was able to sweep it past the Monarch goaltender as he fell to the ice for his third goal of the season.

The Admirals penalty kill and Adam Munro preserved the lead in the third. Norfolk killed nearly back-to-back penalties in the middle of the final frame. With 5:34 left in the game, Michal Barinka turned the puck over to Konstantin Pushkarev in his own zone. Barinka hooked down the Manchester winger as he closed in on Munro on a breakaway, and the referee awarded Pushkarev a penalty shot. Munro stopped Pushkarev's backhander to uphold the Norfolk one-goal lead. With 51 seconds remaining, Colin Fraser shot the puck from the neutral zone into the empty cage to seal a 4-2 victory for the Admirals.

Adam Munro earned the win and made 35 saves on 37 shots. Barry Brust stopped 32 of 35 shots en route to a loss.

The Admirals were 1-7 on the power play, and Manchester was 1-6.
