Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, IL - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights not only ended Peoria's shutout streak on Saturday night at Carver Arena, but they also defeated the Rivermen by a score of 3-2. Peoria right wing Colin Hemingway continued his hot hand in this game by notching one goal and one assist.

The Rivermen came into this divisional match-up riding a five-game winning streak, and Peoria had also posted a shutout in each of its previous three outings. Those streaks, however, came to an abrupt conclusion on Saturday evening at the hands of the Omaha squad. The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights brought an end to the shutout streak of the Rivermen about midway through the first period and then held that lead until the final horn sounded to end Peoria's winning streak.

Omaha improved its overall record to 5-5-0-3 with the victory, and the club is now 3-3-0-0 on the road. Peoria, meanwhile, dropped to 9-3-0-0 with the loss, and the Rivermen now own a home record of 5-2-0-0.

Omaha finally broke Peoria's overall shutout streak 11:28 into the first period. Stationed near the top left corner of the crease to the right of Rivermen goaltender Jason Bacashihua during a five-on-three Omaha power play, Tomi Maki redirected a low shot from the center point by defenseman Richie Regehr into the net for the game's first goal.

Ak-Sar-Ben Knights left wing Brantt Myhres extended his club's lead to 2-0 at 5:45 of the middle frame. Defenseman Zenith Komarniski began the scoring play by firing the puck on net from along the goal line in the right corner of the Peoria zone. Forward Justin Taylor got a stick on the shot at point-blank range to Bacashihua, but the puck rebounded to Myhres in the high slot, and he buried it into the goal over a sprawling Bacashihua.

The Rivermen responded with their first goal of the evening late in the second period. Taking a pass from fellow winger Brendan Brooks at the top of the left face-off circle, Colin Hemingway snapped a fierce shot from the left face-off dot over the left shoulder of Omaha goaltender Curtis McElhinney to make the game 2-1 in favor of the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights at 17:18 of the second.

Omaha jumped out to a 3-1 lead just 41 seconds into the third period. After accepting a pass from center Carsen Germyn near the blueline, defenseman Richie Regehr took a shot at the Peoria goal that David Moss tipped up and into the net from just outside of Bacashihua's crease.

The Rivermen, however, stayed in the game. While on the power play, Peoria defenseman Trevor Byrne unleashed a shot from the right point that McElhinney blocked. A rebound came to Hemingway, who missed on a close-in shot from the top of the crease, but the puck then bounced to the right of the Omaha goal, and Charles Linglet popped it over the Omaha goalie to the short side to bring the Rivermen within one goal of a tie at 3-2 at the 9:51 mark of the third period.

Despite Peoria's best efforts to tie the game, the Knights skated away with a 3-2 win. The Rivermen pulled goalie Jason Bacashihua in favor of an extra attacker as the final moments of the game wound down, but Peoria was unable to even the score.

The Rivermen next take to the ice on Friday, November 11, when they will host the Toronto Marlies at 7:30 p.m. at Carver Arena.
