Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Saturday signed goaltender Kevin LaPointe to a professional tryout. The move was necessitated by the Detroit Red Wings' recall of Jimmy Howard earlier today.
The 25-year-old LaPointe, who attended training camp with Grand Rapids in September, has appeared in two games with UHL Muskegon this season. The rookie made 15 saves in the Fury's 6-2 home win over Flint last night, improving his record to 2-0 with a 2.50 goals against average.
LaPointe will serve as Drew MacIntyre's backup tonight when the Griffins host the Syracuse Crunch at 7 p.m.
