
Bulldogs lose in shootout to Marlies

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Toronto Marlies for the first time this season on Saturday night, losing 6-5 in a shootout. With the loss, the Bulldogs record now stands at 4-6-0-1.
The Toronto Marlies scored the game's first goal 4:09 into the first period. John Pohl's initial shot was stopped by Bulldogs goaltender Olivier Michaud, but Brad Leeb pounced on the rebound to score his fourth goal of the season.
Hamilton tied the game at 8:08 when Francis Lemieux tipped Maxim Lapierre's shot from the slot past Toronto's J.S. Aubin.
Bulldogs winger Duncan Milroy tipped Andre Benoit's point shot through the five-hole of Aubin to give Hamilton a 2-1 lead with 6:18 left in the first period. The goal, which came on the power play, was Milroy's second in as many games.
The Marlies tied the game 2-2 on the power play when Bates Battaglia fired a shot from the right face-off circle over Michaud's glove.
Hamilton reclaimed the lead 7:44 into the second period when Maxim Lapierre, standing alone in front of the net, tipped Andrew Archer's shot through Aubin's legs. Lapierre's goal was his first as a professional.
The Bulldogs added to their lead on a failed clearing attempt by the Marlies on the power play at 10:19. Brad Winchester scored his second goal of the season when he took the puck from the skates of a Toronto player and fired a shot under the arm of Aubin.
Winchester gave Hamilton a 5-2 lead, with his second goal of the game, at 13:33 of second period, firing a shot that trickled underneath the arm of Aubin.
Kris Newbury's power play with 5:08 left in the middle frame cut the deficit to two goals. Newbury fired a snapshot past a screened Michaud for his fourth goal of the season.
Toronto cut Hamilton's lead to one goal, with Brad Leeb's second goal of the game at the 13:46 mark of the third period. Leeb fired a wrist shot from the high slot, eluding Michaud.
With 4:29 left in the third period, the Marlies tied the game at 5-5. Newbury's scored his second goal of the game with a wrist shot from Michaud's left side.
After a scoreless overtime period, the two teams went to ten shooters before Brett Engelhardt gave the Marlies the victory with his shootout goal.
Bulldogs goaltender Olivier Michaud stopped 29 of 34 shots while J.S. Aubin made 15 saves before being replaced by J.F. Racine. Racine made 10 saves to earn the victory.
Hamilton was 3 for 7 with the man advantage while Toronto was 2 for 7.
