Bridgeport Islanders News Release
THE WEEK THAT WAS... The Sound Tigers had two games this past weekend after a stretch of eight games in 13 days where Pat Bingham's squad garnered a strong 4-2-1-1 record. The Sound Tigers finished this past weekend with an even 1-1 record as the power play showed renewed signs of life and goaltender Nathan Lawson stymied the Providence Bruins.
SPRINGFIELD 5, SOUND TIGERS 3... The Sound Tigers began the weekend in Springfield against the Falcons as they looked to reach the .500 mark for the first time since the season's opening weekend. They looked to be on their way as power play goals from Rhett Rakhshani and Jeremy Colliton put the Sound Tigers in front 2-0 after the first period. The second period was a different matter as the Falcons scored three consecutive goals against netminder Mikko Koskinen to take a 3-2 lead. Robin Figren would tie the score late in the second, but an early third period goal from Nick Tarnasky followed by Jay Pandolfo's first as a Falcon sealed the deal for the home team as Springfield skated away with a 5-3 win.
SOUND TIGERS 4, PROVIDENCE 1... Something had to give on Saturday night as the Sound Tigers hosted a Providence Bruins team with a 7-1-1-0 road record. The Sound Tigers entered Saturday's game with an equally strong 8-3-1-0 home record, and it was the home team who would prevail. For the second straight game the Sound Tigers would enter the 1st intermission with a 2-0 lead, this time powered by first period goals from Josh Bailey and Olivier Labelle. Levi Nelson cut the Sound Tigers lead in half midway through the second, but that would be all the scoring Providence would muster against Nathan Lawson. Bailey's second goal of the game and Robin Figren's team leading ninth-goal of the season came just 30 seconds apart late in the third, and Lawson's 36 saves gave the Sound Tigers a 4-1 win against the P-Bruins.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - RHETT RAKHSHANI...
Rookie forward Rhett Rakhshani earns Player of the Week honors after two multi-point games this weekend. Rakhshani had a goal and an assist in Friday's 5-3 loss at Springfield and followed it up with two assists on Josh Bailey's goals in their 4-1 victory over the P=2DBruins. Rakhshani leads the Sound Tigers in points (20), assists (12), shots on goal (59) and ranks second in goals (8).
ISLANDERS RETURN REESE TO SOUND TIGERS... The New York Islanders announced Monday that defenseman Dylan Reese has been returned on loan to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. Reese, 26, was recalled by the Islanders on Nov. 15 and made his 2010-11 Isles debut against Florida on Nov. 20. The Pittsburgh, PA native appeared in five games with the Islanders and recorded four penalty minutes while averaging just over 15 minutes of ice time per game. Reese returns to the Sound Tigers where he has notched six points (one goal/five assists) in 15 games with the Islanders' AHL affiliate.
ANNUAL HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE UNDERWAY... The Sound Tigers Annual Holiday Toy Drive kicked off this past weekend when the Sound Tigers hosted Providence on Saturday, Dec. 4. Fans are urged to bring new, unused toys to the Sound Tigers upcoming home games on Dec. 8 and Dec. 17-19.
