Syracuse, NY (December 6, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch gave up eight goals in the second period and 10 goals in a game for the third time in team history en route to a 10-3 loss to the Charlotte Checkers tonight at Time Warner Cable Arena. Oskar Osala had four points (1g, 3a), Zach Boychuk (1g, 2a), Jerome Samson (1g, 2a) and Chris Terry (0g, 3a) each had three points, and 15 of Charlotte's 18 skaters registered at least one point.

Kyle Palmieri, Jake Newton and Stefan Chaput recorded the Crunch's three tallies.

The Crunch fell behind 1-0 just over five minutes into the first period when Jerome Samson scored his second goal in as many nights against the Crunch and 14th of the season on a backhand wraparound attempt past Timo Pielmeier during a delayed penalty.

The score stayed that way until the Crunch tied it at 1-1 with just four seconds remaining in the first period. Brett Festerling hit Palmieri with a long cross-ice pass and sent the 19-year old rookie in down the right side. Palmieri ripped a wrister inside the left post past Mike Murphy to draw the Crunch even.

After the Crunch played a solid road period in the first, they did anything but in the second, as the wheels fell off and Charlotte scored eight goals in the stanza to take a 9-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Charlotte scored six goals in a span of 3:39, starting with a Zach Boychuk power play goal at the 4:06 mark. That started the avalanche, as Zach Dalpe, Brad Herauf, Brett Sutter, Riley Nash, Oskar Osala, Jacob Micflikier and Nash again all scored in that order before the second period was through.

Pielmeier was pulled in favor of J.P. Levasseur after Charlotte's fourth goal of the game, but came back in after Levasseur gave up two goals on two shots.

The Crunch came out with some jump in the third period and it paid off when Newton's shot from behind his side of the red line took a fluke bounce and got past Murphy to make it 9-2 1:17 into the frame.

Chaput made it 9-3 after beating Murphy with a slick backhand to forehand move on a shorthanded breakaway at the 16:12 mark, but Charlotte got it right back just 25 seconds later on the same power play when Jon Matsumoto beat Pielmeier to cap the game's scoring at 10-3.

The Crunch conclude their four-game road trip by traveling to Norfolk to take on the Admirals on Wednesday, December 8 at 7:15 p.m. Syracuse returns home to The Oncenter War Memorial Arena on Friday, December 10 vs. Adirondack at 7:30 p.m.
