Pirates Recap

On Saturday, the Pirates began the weekend by facing the Norfolk Admirals at the Civic Center for the lone home game of the week. Following two Paul Byron first period goals and an added tally by T.J. Brennan, the Pirates raced out to an early 3-0 lead. Norfolk would claw back with a second period goal by Marc-Antoine Pouliot, and two late third period goals in the last three minutes to tie the game and send it to extra-time. After a scoreless overtime period, the teams went to a shootout and Pouliot netted the game-winner for the only goal between the teams in 10 tries. All three meetings against Norfolk this season have gone to extra-time.

After a tough loss on Saturday, Portland travelled down to Worcester for the second game of the UNUM Challenge against the Sharks. Worcester got off to a blistering start, scorching the Pirates with four straight goals before Portland could light the lamp in the second period. The Sharks would go up 6-1, and hold on to win 6-4. Derek Whitmore, Mark Mancari, Nick Crawford, and Corey Tropp each scored a goal for the Pirates.

Portland currently stands at 14-7-1-1 and is in second-place in the Atlantic Division, four points behind the first-place Manchester Monarchs.
