Phantoms Play Three Games This Weekend
Friday, December 10 - 7:30 p.m. - Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter, Syracuse, NY
@ Syracuse Crunch (8-11-1-3, 20 pts)
7th Place in East Division, Eastern Conference
This is the second meeting of the season series between the Phantoms and the Crunch. It is also the first meeting since a trade between the two organizations a couple weeks ago in which the Flyers acquired Danny Syvret and Rob Bordson from the Ducks in exchange for former Phantoms Patrick Maroon and David Laliberte. Adirondack won the first game of the series in the season's home opener on October 15 and Eric Wellwood's game winner. Trevor Smith leads the Crunch in points with 16. Kyle Palmeiri has 8 goals. Timo Pielmeier and J.P. Lavasseur have shared goaltending duties.
Saturday, December 11 - 7:00 p.m.
vs. Portland Pirates (14-7-1-1, 30 pts)
2nd Place in Atlantic Division, Eastern Conference
This is the second and last meeting of the season between the Phantoms and the AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. It is also Portland's only appearance at the Glens Falls Civic Center this year. Portland defeated the Phantoms 5-2 at the Cumberland County Civic Center on November 5. Denis Hamel scored in his first game with the Phantoms. Mark Mancari leads the Pirates with 12 goals and 26 points. David Leggio (8-2-0), and Jhonas Enroth (6-5-1) have split the time in goal. The Pirates are led by Kevin Dineen, son of legendary Adirondack Red Wings Head Coach Bill Dineen.
Sunday, December 12 - 3:00 p.m. - XL Center Veterans Memorial, Hartford, CT
@ Connecticut Whale (10-11-2-4, 26 pts)
4th place in Atlantic Division, Eastern Conference
This is the second of four meetings this year between the Phantoms and the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers. It is Adirondack's last trip to Hartford this season. The Phantoms lost at the Whale on November 28 by a 3-0 score as rookie Whale goalie Cameron Talbot turned aside 25 shots for the shutout win. Nic Riopel had slammed the door on Connecticut for the first two periods before the Whale finally broke the scoreless duel in the third. It is also the first of a home-and-home series between the two teams as the Whale will be coming to Glens Falls on Wednesday, December 15. Chad Johnson (7-10-3) has played the bulk of the games in net. Talbot has gone 3-2-1. Jeremy Williams leads the team with 14 goals and 23 points. Kris Newbury has racked up 21 assists.
Past Week Game Results
Saturday, December 4 - Adirondack 2 @ Wilkes-Barre 3
Michael Leighton looked sharp in the first of his two game NHL conditioning stint with the Phantoms but the Penguins were able to break a 1-1 deadlock with five minutes remaining in the third on Dustin Jeffrey's tally and then added another a couple minutes later on Eric Tangradi's shot along the goal-line that squeaked through. John Curry gave up a late goal to Ben Holmstrom on a redirection of a Denis Hamel shot but was able to hold off the Phantoms in the closing moments as the Penguins preserved the 3-2 victory for their league leading 20th win of the season. Eric Wellwood scored a highlight-reel style goal in the first period to stake the visitors to the initial lead when he backhand slammed the puck backwards between his legs with his back turned to the goal. He received the pass on the strong-side from Andrew Rowe on a 2-on-1 rush and the shot squeaked through five-hold on John Curry.
Sunday, December 5, 2010 - Adirondack 2 @ Albany 4
The Phantoms dropped a 4-2 decision to the Albany Devils on Sunday afternoon in Atlantic City in front of a largely Phantoms supporting contingent at Boardwalk Hall. Michael Leighton made 23 saves on 27 shots in his second game of his conditioning stint with the Phantoms. Kevin Marshall scored his first of the season in the first period. Luke Pither blasted a wire from the left-wing dot in the third period. Mike Testwuide assisted on both Phantoms goals. Albany leads the Time Warner Cable Cup series 2 games to 1 but there are still 9 games remaining between the local rivals. The Albany Devils will come back to Glens Falls to ring in 2011 with a January 1 game at 7:00 p.m.
