January 24, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers earned their sixth win in their last eight contests with a 4-1 victory over the Binghamton Senators before 2,173 home fans at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Wednesday night. Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz stopped 30 shots and Eric Boguniecki scored a goal, his 10th of the season, and added an assist to lead the Sound Tigers.
The Sound Tigers improved to 19-17-4-1 to keep pace with the fourth place Albany River Rats in the East Division. The Sound Tigers remain just two points behind the River Rats. Binghamton, meanwhile, fell to 12-25-1-5 and lost to the Sound Tigers for the fourth time in six meetings this season.
Boguniecki scored the eventual game-winner when he took a long feed from Rick Berry, skated in alone on Binghamton goaltender Kelly Guard, and roofed a shot into the far corner of the net for a 2-1 lead at 17:10 of the second period.
It was a close game for most of the night. The Sound Tigers got an insurance marker at 16:44 of the third period when Steve Regier scored a shorthanded goal for a 3-1 advantage. Regier jammed home his own rebound after Blake Comeau took the initial shot on a two-on-one opportunity. Allan Rourke also assisted Regier's goal, his 10th of the year.
Jeff Tambellini opened the scored when he fired a slap shot past Guard on the power play for his 21st goal at 16:11 of the first period. Tambellini, a forward working the point on the man advantage, was set up by Frans Nielsen and Boguniecki. Tambellini has earned points in six consecutive games.
The Senators tied the game at a goal apiece when Grant Potulny cashed in on a power play at 12:50 of the middle period. Cory Pecker and Ryan Vesce assisted his 10th tally of the campaign.
Sound Tiger Masi Marjamaki finished off the scoring with an empty net goal, his first of the year, set up by Mark Wotton at 19:58 of the third.
Bridgeport outshot Binghamton 35-31. The Sound Tigers were 1-for-5 on the power play and the Senators were 1-for-4 on the advantage.
The Sound Tigers visit Hartford on Friday and host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. Great seats are available at the Arena at Harbor Yard Box Office. For schedule and ticket information, including group discount opportunities, visit soundtigers.com or call 334-4625.
