Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced that the Dallas Stars have recalled Center Steve Ott from the Iowa Stars on Wednesday. White also announced that Iowa has returned on loan Goaltender Steve Silverthorn to Iowa's ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads.
Assigned to Iowa for a conditioning assignment on January 18th, Ott appeared in three games for Iowa while coming back from a foot injury that had sidelined him since November 16th. He did not register a point while with Iowa.
This season with Dallas, he appeared in just 11 games, notching four assists and 15 penalty minutes: 11(0/4/4)15.
Last season, he posted NHL career highs with five goals, 17 assists and 22 points and was second on Dallas with 178 penalty minutes. Drafted by Dallas in first round, 25th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, he was the lone player to appear in all 82 games for the Dallas Stars last season.
A native of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada, his NHL totals reflect 192 games played, 10 goals, 35 assists, and 376 penalty minutes: 192(10/35/45)376.
Listed at 6-2 and 190-pounds, Silverthorn made his AHL debut on January 5th in Hamilton, Ontario. The Owen Sound, Ontario native stopped all 32 shots to earn a shutout victory in his first AHL game. The following evening in Toronto he blanked the Marlies on all 24 shots, becoming the first Iowa Stars netminder to earn back-to-back shutouts. He also now owns the franchise record for the longest sequence, 128:25 minutes, of shutout hockey. He departs Iowa with a 2-1 record with a .923 Save Percentage and a 1.92 Goals Against Average.
With the Stars ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads, he has a record of 15 wins, 10 losses, 1 overtime loss and 1 shootout loss along with a .897 Save Percentage, a 2.99 Goals Against Average this season. The second-year professional was named the ECHL Rbk Hockey Goaltender of the Week for the period ending November 5th, 2006 and was also selected as the ECHL Saver of the Month for October.
