Rochester Americans News Release
Game Notes: Tonight, the North Division leading Rochester Americans will face the Grand Rapids Griffins in game one of a two-game series at The Blue Cross Arena. At the game, fans can turn in their business card and receive a regular $19.00 ticket for $10.00 as a part of clevermethod's Business Person's Special. The 7:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks. After the game, fans can head down to Nathaniel's Pub (251 Exchange Blvd.) for the Official Labatt Postgame Party.
Head-to-Head: Tonight's match up should be a disciplined one on both sides of the puck, as the Griffins are one of the few AHL clubs that take less penalties than the Amerks. Rochester averages 18.0 minutes in penalties per game (sixth lowest), while Grand Rapids averages just 17.4 minutes in penalties per contest (fifth lowest). The Amerks are 1-3 this season and 8-13-1 all-time against Grand Rapids. In their last meeting on December 31st, the Griffins knocked off the Amerks 3-0 at Van Andel Arena.
Amerk Notes: The Amerks lead the North Division with a record of 29-12-1-0 and 59 points, six points better than second-place Manitoba. Amerks left winger Clarke MacArthur leads the team in goals (17), assists (33) and points (50). His 50 points are also good enough for eighth in the American Hockey League. Notably, he has also registered points in his last 12 games at The Blue Cross Arena. Despite missing his last four games due to injury, Amerks center Janis Sprukts remains among the top rookies in the league. He is tied for fourth among league rookies with 26 assists and is eighth among AHL first-year players, and second on the team, with 35 points (9+26).
Grand Rapids Notes: The Griffins come to Rochester standing fourth in the North Division with a record of 20-18-4-2 and 46 points. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games, but were swept in a two-game series against the Hamilton Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum last weekend. Grand Rapids is led by center Kip Miller who has 15 goals and 28 assists in 44 games this season. Jimmy Howard leads the Griffins' goaltending corps with a 12-12-1 record, a 2.89 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.
