Montreal sends Lapierre back to Hamilton

MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that the club has assigned forward Maxim Lapierre to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Lapierre, 21, has appeared in 13 games with the Canadiens so far this season, registering five points (3-2-5), six penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating. When the 6-foot-2, 197-pound centreman was recalled by Montreal from Hamilton on January 5th, Lapierre had posted 21 points (9-12-21), 55 penalty minutes and a plus-7 rating in 32 games with the Bulldogs.

A native of St-Leonard, Quebec, Lapierre was drafted by Montreal in the 2nd round, 61st overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.

The Bulldogs return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 26th, when they take on the San Antonio Rampage at Copps Coliseum.
