Toronto Marlies News Release

TORONTO, ON... Patients at Bloorview Kids Rehab will be receiving a special visit from members of the AHL All- Star teams this Monday, January 29 beginning at 10 a.m., thanks in part to the Toronto Marlies and the American Hockey League, hosts of the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic. Marlies' All-Stars Erik Westrum and Kris Newbury will be among the many athletes taking the time to make a difference in the lives of courageous children on the road to recovery.

Bloorview Kids Rehab is the largest children's rehabilitation hospital and is a leader in research, care, and education of children with special needs. Every year the facility impacts the lives of more than 6,500 children and their families who are affected by illness. Rehabilitation terms at Bloorview average almost six weeks in length, but some patients remain at the hospital for up to a year.

Westrum and Newbury will be accompanied by other All-Star players and mascots from around the league including the Marlies' Duke the Dog.

Westrum, who will be making his second appearance as an All-Star, was voted to the starting lineup for Team PlanetUSA via online fan balloting which concluded earlier this month. The Minneapolis native has accumulated 45 points (16 goals, 29 assists) while collecting 93 penalty minutes in 44 games with the Marlies this season. A Brampton, Ontario native, Newbury was selected by a panel of coaches to play for the Canadian team and will be the first Marlies' player in franchise history to represent the Canadian side at this event. Newbury was recently recognized as the Toronto nominee for the league's CCM/Vector AHL Player of the Week award after registering six points in three games since his return from the parent Maple Leafs last Tuesday. In 35 games with the Marlies this season, Newbury has recorded 36 points (12 goals, 24 assists) while collecting 85 penalty minutes.

The 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic will take place at Ricoh Coliseum at Exhibition Place in Toronto. The event features the 2007 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, January 28 (7:00 ET) and the 2007 AHL All-Star Game on Monday, January 29 (7:00 ET), and will be televised live on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada and on a network of regional broadcast partners in the United States.
