January 24, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release
David Moss scored two goals in his return to Omaha as the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights defeated the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 in a shoot-out. The victory extended the Knights' winning streak to seven games and moved them to within two points of West Division-leading Chicago.
After a scoreless first period, Ramzi Abid opened the scoring with a powerplay goal at the 4:17 mark of the second period. Just over three minutes later, Moss would reply for the Knights receiving a pass from David Van der Gulik during a delayed penalty against Milwaukee.
The Admirals regained the lead during a five-on-three powerplay when Cal O'Reilly rammed in the rebound of a shot by Sheldon Brookbank at 12:48.
The Knights would tie the game at 2-2 just 1:10 later. With the Knights still down two men, Warren Peters banked a shot off the post and past Rinne for his ninth goal of the year.
Omaha took its first lead of the game when Moss collected the rebound of shot by Tim Hambly and stuffed it into an empty net after Rinne had fallen down. The powerplay tally made it 3-2.
But Brookbank would tie the game later when he fired a shot under McElhinney for his second point of the night.
After a scoreless overtime, the teams exchanged goals in the first two rounds of the shootout before the goalies stopped the third and fourth shooters. In the fifth round, each team would score to force sudden death. Shooting for the second time, Andrei Taratukhin beat Rinne with backhander. McElhinney then stopped Milwaukee's leading scorer, Rich Peverley on the final shot to preserve the win, his 19th of the year.
The Knights are now 28-13-3-0, a season high 15 games over the .500 mark. They have also won a team record six straight home games.
Three Stars: 1. David Moss (OMA) - 2 goals; 2. Carsen Germyn (OMA) - 2 assists; 3. Ramzi Abid (MIL) - 1 goal, 1 assist.
