Bears cruise to 6-1 victory over Philly
January 24, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY began the final week of January with an exclamation point, scoring five times in the second period to romp over the Phantoms 6-1 at Wachovia Spectrum Wednesday.
The BEARS took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room after one, and did so by virtue of the power play. Chad Wiseman made an impressive end-to-end run into the Philadelphia zone and scored his 11th goal of the season. The lone assist went to BEARS goaltender Davis Parley at 12:12. HERSHEY put 11 shots on Phantoms goaltender Martin Houle in the first period, while Parley faced just six.
The second period proved to be the best offensive period for HERSHEY in the 2006-07 season. Wiseman finished a natural hat trick by scoring an unassisted even strength goal at 6:16 of the second, and then added his third of the game and 16th of the season on the power play at 8:26. Tomas Fleischmann scored a five-on-five goal at 12:08 from Eric Fehr and Trevor Byrne to up the score to 4-0. The Phantoms picked up their lone goal of the period when Frederik Cabana notched his second of the season with a tip in front of Parley. HERSHEY picked up two more goals before the period concluded, with Matt Hendricks and Dave Steckel getting in on the scoring barrage. Hendricks scored his eighth of the season at 16:20, and Steckel picked up his 16th just 13 seconds later at 16:33. The BEARS scored five goals on 10 shots to take a 6-1 lead to the locker room after two. Neither team would score in the third period, with both clubs garnering nine shots. Parley was named the game's number three star, making 21 saves. Tomas Fleischmann was number two star, with a goal and an assist. Wiseman's four point effort on three goals and one assist earned him number one star honors.
Notes: Goaltender Nolan Schaefer dressed for the BEARS, one day after being acquired on loan from San Jose/Worcester. Marc Busenburg was a healthy scratch, while Alexandre Giroux was sidelined for the second consecutive game with an upper body injury. The team will travel Thursday after practice to Norfolk in preparations for Friday's showdown with the Admirals at Norfolk Scope. BEARS goaltender Davis Parley made his AHL debut after sporting a 19-10-3 record this season for South Carolina (ECHL). HERSHEY had scored four goals in a period three different times this season prior to the five-goal second period Wednesday. The BEARS scored four in the third period December 30 against Norfolk, four at Albany in the third period December 20 at Albany and four October 8 in the third period at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
