In the community

Teddy Bear Toss: It's time to get into the giving holiday mood and join the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in their annual Teddy Bear Toss during Sunday's 4 p.m. game against the Norfolk Admirals. This seasonal event puts smiles on the faces of area children who are battling cancer. Fans are asked to bring teddy bears or other stuffed animals to the game, and toss them onto the ice after the first Sound Tiger goal is scored. Throughout the years, this annual event has resulted in tens of thousands of stuffed animals being tossed to the ice, eventually making their way into the arms of appreciative children. It's a Sound Tiger holiday tradition that brings fans and the community together. Additionally, the Sound Tigers and their corporate sponsors will donate tickets to children who are well-enough to attend the game. The Sound Tigers' players and staff, joined by AMR, will deliver the stuffed animals to children at Bridgeport Hospital, St. Vincent's Medical Center, Norwalk Hospital, Stamford Hospital and Yale-New Haven Hospital on Monday, Dec. 18.

The Gift of Hockey

The Gift of Hockey is an appropriate present for sports fans this holiday season. It includes four ticket vouchers for any Sound Tigers game, an autographed puck and a coupon good for 15 percent off merchandise at the Sound Tigers Team Shop. The Gift of Hockey costs $59.99 for end zone seating (behind the nets) and $89.99 for center ice seating. It's sure to be a well-remembered gift. Fans may purchase the Gift of Hockey through the Sound Tigers office at the Arena at Harbor Yard, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (334-GOAL) or by visiting soundtigers.com.

Dress like Santa, come for free

Saturday, Dec. 23, when the Sound Tigers host the Manchester Monarchs at 7 p.m. is Santa Claus Night. Fans who wear Santa Claus suits may attend the game free of charge. During the first intermission fans in their Santa Claus suits will be invited onto the ice for a group picture.

Weekly update

In the standings: The Sound Tigers have a record of 11-9-1-3 and are in fifth place in the division, two points behind Albany.

Familiar foes: The Sound Tigers and Binghamton Senators have met five times already; they still have three games left in the season series.

Flair for the dramatic: Wednesday's overtime win marked the ninth time in their first 23 games the Sound Tigers skated in the extra session.

Comeau comeback: Rookie Blake Comeau sent Wednesday's game to overtime with his seventh tally of the year with just 4:10 to play. He proceeded to set up Jeff Tambellini's game-winner with just 23 seconds left in the extra session.

Streaks ended and extended: On Wednesday, Jeff Tambellini ran his point streak to 10 games and Jeremy Colliton extended his goal-scoring streak to five. On Saturday, Colliton extended his point streak to six games with an assist, and Tambellini was finally kept off the score sheet.

Between the pipes: Michael Mole, a recent call-up from East Coast Hockey League Pensacola, came off the bench on Saturday and stopped all 18 shots he faced in 44:05 of action. Mole, in his only other Sound Tiger game this year, won a 3-2 shootout at Hershey back in October.

Making a killing: The Sound Tigers' penalty kill is still better than 90 percent successful, and continues to lead the league. The Sound Tigers have allowed just 14 goals on 154 opponents' man advantages (90.9 percent).

Player of the week nominee

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers nominate right wing Blake Comeau for the CCM/Vector AHL Player of the Week award. Comeau had the game-tying goal and assisted on Jeff Tambellini's overtime winner in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over Binghamton. He was called up to the NHL parent club New York Islanders, for his first NHL action, the next night.
