LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Lowell (12/8): Goaltender Jason LaBarbera's gritty performance between the pipes gave the Manchester Monarchs a 2-0 shutout over the Lowell Devils at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Right wing Ryan Murphy and center Patrick O'Sullivan tallied for the Monarchs. LaBarbera stopped all 34 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season. Devils goaltender Jordan Parise made 22 saves. Manchester went 0-for-1 on the power play. Lowell was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

Vs. Portland (12/9): Center Gabe Gauthier scored the game-winning goal at the 3:43 mark of overtime to lift the Manchester Monarchs over the Portland Pirates 3-2 in overtime at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Monarchs right wing John Zeiler scored on the power play and right wing Konstantin Pushkarev tallied his second of the season. Center Zenon Konopka and right wing Pierre Parenteau scored for the Pirates. Monarchs goaltender Jason LaBarbera earned his 11th win of the season stopping 32 shots. Pirates netminder Nathan Marsters took the loss with 22 saves. Manchester went 1-for-8 on the power play. Portland was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Monarchs (12-8-5-1) are in third place in the Atlantic Division with 30 points.

Manchester has a home record of 8-4-4-0 and a road record of 4-4-1-1.

The Monarchs power play is ranked ninth in the AHL after 26 games with a 19.3-percent man advantage scoring percentage. Manchester has scored 29 goals on 150 opportunities so far this season with the man advantage

Manchester's penalty kill is ranked 23rd in the league after letting in 29 goals on 142 situations when the team has been down a man for a 79.6 percentage. The Monarchs did not give up a power play goal to the opposition in 25 opportunities over seven games until right wing Pierre Parenteau tallied in the third period of Sunday's 3-2 overtime win over the Portland Pirates.

The Monarchs are currently on a nine game home streak without a regulation loss. Dating back to November 12, the Monarchs have not lost in 60 minutes of hockey. In the last nine games, Manchester has six wins and three overtime losses.

Left wing Noah Clarke leads the Monarchs in scoring with 20 points (10-10=20).

Clarke's ten goals also lead the team.

Clarke is tied with center Michael Cammalleri (71) on the all-time goals category for the Monarchs with 71 tallies in 225 games since the 2002-03 season.

Clarke is in first place on the Monarchs all-time list with 23 power play goals.

Defenseman T.J. Kemp is ranked second on the Monarchs squad in scoring and leads Manchester's blueliners with 17 points (2-15=17).

Kemp is also tied for fifth place among AHL defensemen with 17 points.

Rookie Kemp leads the Monarchs in assists with 15.

Center Patrick O'Sullivan (8-8=16) is third on the Monarchs in scoring.

O'Sullivan's eight goals also rank second behind Clarke on the team.

Right wing John Zeiler (6-8=14) is fourth on the Monarchs in scoring and five out of his six goals have come on the power play.

Defenseman Peter Harrold (2-11=13) was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Novmeber 21 and has two points, both assists, and six penalty minutes in nine games. He scored his first professional point in his debut against the San Jose Sharks on November 22.

Harrold and defenseman Eric Werner (0-13=13) are tied with left wing Matt Moulson (5-8=13) for fifth place in team scoring.

Harrold and Werner are tied for 16th in the AHL among defensemen in scoring.

Goaltender Barry Brust made his NHL debut against the Phoenix Coyotes on November 30. Brust let in four goals in just over 50 minutes of playing time after replacing Dan Cloutier between the pipes in the first period. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound native of Swan River, Manitoba, took the 7-4 loss stopping 24 shots.

Goaltender Jason LaBarbera ranks second in the league among minutes played with 1,291 minutes in 22 games.

LaBarbera is ranked first in the AHL in the saves category with 672 on the season.

LaBarbera is third in the league with a save percentage of .929 and he is seventh among goaltenders with a goals-against-average of 2.37.

LaBarbera has played in 207 AHL games with the Monarchs and Wolf Pack. He has a record of 103-64-20, a goals-against-average of 2.16 and a save percentage of .926 in 11,472 minutes of work between the pipes and 5,166 saves in the AHL.

12-14-06 - Forwards Petr Kanko and Lauri Tukonen, defensemen Doug Nolan and Bryan Schmidt and goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji will be at the Catholic Medical Center on Thursday, December 14 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. eating lunch and signing autographs as part of CMC Employee Day.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS

Teddy Bear Toss - The Monarchs Care Foundation will host its annual Teddy Bear Toss on Sunday, December 17. Fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear or purchase a bear at the game from the Monarchs Care Foundation. Teddy bears will be tossed onto the ice during the second intermission and then donated to local charities.
