Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK: The Senators (9-15-1-2, 21 pts.) were 2-2 last week, including a 4-2 comeback victory over the Toronto Marlies on Sunday afternoon.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6th @ BRIDGEPORT (2-3 OTL):

Winger BRIAN MALONEY'S tally late in the first period put the Senators in front of Bridgeport 1-0. Leading scorers ANDREW EBBETT and JEFF HEEREMA assisted on the marker. With the score knotted at 1 apiece midway through the final period, BOBBY ROBINS buried his third marker of the season to give Binghamton a 2-1 advantage. Bridgeport responded with just four minutes left in regulation, as winger Blake Comeau collected an even-strength marker to send the game into sudden death. Jeff Tambellini registered the game-winner at 4:37 of overtime. JEFF GLASS had 36 saves in the losing effort.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8th vs. NORFOLK (2-5 L):

Newly appointed captain JAMIE ALLISON collected a short-handed marker, his first AHL tally since 1997, and leading scorer JEFF HEEREMA added his 12th marker of the season. Center Jonas Nordqvist put the Admirals out in front, as he buried a power-play marker at 3:11 of the first period. Norfolk came into the contest ranked first in the AHL on the power play. Leading scorer Troy Brouwer netted the second power-play tally of the night late in the first period to open the Admirals lead to 2-0. Early in the second stanza, David Bolland flipped a back-handed shot from the left post past goalie KELLY GUARD. Bryan Bickell collected his second assist of the night on the play. HEEREMA put the Senators on the board at 4:58 of the second stanza. ANDY HEDLUND and JOSH HENNESSY assisted on the goal. After another Norfolk marker, ALLISON smashed a one-timer from the left boards past the left shoulder of Sebastien Caron to make it a 4-2 game. The Admirals added a late insurance marker against KELLY GUARD to close the door on the comeback.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9th vs. BRIDGEPORT (5-2 W):

The Senators exacted their revenge on the Sound Tigers, as they buried four first period markers on former B-Sens' goalie Billy Thompson to snap a three-game losing streak. Leading scorer JEFF HEEREMA led the offensive explosion by the Senators, as the Thunder Bay native collected three points (2+1=3) on the night. HEEREMA buried his first marker at 1:29 of the first period, as he snapped a wrist shot past Thompson. JOSH HENNESSY and ARTTU LUTTINEN assisted on the goal. Just thirty second later, left wing BRIAN MALONEY struck with his second marker of the week to give the Senators a 2-0 lead. ARTTU LUTTINEN gathered a loose puck and circled the Bridgeport goal, he then found a slashing JEFF HEEREMA moving towards the front of the net. HEEREMA snapped it past Thompson from the right post to extend the Senators lead to 3-0. LUTTINEN added his second helper of the night on the goal. The Senators took advantage of their first power play of the night. Center RYAN VESCE'S one-timer bounced off the goal post waist high, as GRANT POTULNY picked it out of the air and tap it past Thompson to give Binghamton a commanding 4-0 lead after the opening period. JEFF GLASS stopped 26 of 28 shots to earn his second win of the season against Bridgeport.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 10th @ TORONTO (4-2 W):

The Senators traveled north of the border for the first time this season to face the Toronto Marlies at Ricoh Coliseum. The Senators fell behind early, but used three-third period goals to win their second game in as many nights by a final a 4-2. Rookie ANDREW EBBETT had three points (2+1=3) to pace the Senators attack, while goalie JEFF GLASS had 36 saves to earn his second win of the weekend. GLASS made several nifty saves in the first period, including a kick save off of a Murphy rebound try with his back to the Marlie forward while the game was still scoreless. The Marlies did capitalize on Senators' penalties, as Chris Harrington and Kris Newbury each collected power-play markers to put Toronto on top 2-0. Binghamton cut the deficit to 2-1 as EBBETT was credited with his seventh goal. EBBETT'S intended centering pass for GRANT POTULNY from the goal line extended kicked off of Marlie netminder Justin Pogge's stick and snuck between his pads at 12:39. Winger DANNY BOIS, who picked up eight minutes in penalties in the contest and was in the box on both Toronto goals, ironically tied the game on the man advantage when he stuffed home a JOSH HENNESSY rebound at 6:40 of the final period to make it 2-2. The game-winner came at 11:28 of the last stanza, as JEFF HEEREMA teed up a drive that caught a piece of LUTTINEN and goaltender Justin Pogge before settling into the back of the net to make it 3-2. EBBETT added an empty-netter in the final minute to ice the game.
