12.9.06 - Hartford 3 - Worcester 1
Returning to the DCU Center on Friday night after a successful weekend on the road last week, Worcester's third-ranked power play couldn't connect on seven opportunities and the Sharks dropped their second game of the season to the Hartford Wolf Pack by a score of 3-1.
12.10.06 - Springfield 3 - Worcester 0
Failing to find the back of the net despite 32 shots, the Worcester Sharks fell for the second time in as many nights on home ice, this time to the Springfield Falcons by a score of 3-0.
12.11.06 - Providence 3 - Worcester 2 SO
Nolan Schaefer turned aside 31 Providence shots on Sunday preserving one point in the standings for the Sharks, who was defeated 3-2 in shootouts. Justin Kurtz and Craig Valette scored the goals for Worcester who fell to 2-2-0-1 against the Bruins this season.
First for Kurtz...
Sharks defenseman Justin Kurtz scored his first goal of the season against the Providence Bruins in a 3-2 shootout loss on Sunday evening. With a scrum in front of Providence netminder Hannu Toivonen, the puck squirted out to Kurtz at the top of the face-off circles. Kurtz calmly sent a wrist shot over the P-Bruins backstop to record his first goal as a Shark and gave his team a 1-0 lead. In 18 games with Worcester, Kurtz has six points (1+5=6) and 16 penalty minutes.
Vaulting Valette...
Sharks Assistant Captain and forward Craig Valette is off to the best start in his pro career. Valette has already lit the lamp nine times for Team Teal, a new career high. Prior to the season, the Shellbrook, SK native had never tallied more than six goals in a season. Last season with the Cleveland Barons, Valette recorded five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 69 games. Valette has played in just 26 games and has already recorded nine goals and two assists for a total of 11 points.
Atlantic Division Frenzy...
Despite taking just one point out of three games this weekend, the Worcester Sharks are one game above .500 with 11 wins and sit just four points out of first place in the Atlantic Division. The Atlantic Division is by far the tightest in the league where a mere four points separate six of the seven teams. Portland and Providence occupy the top spot with 31 points, while the Sharks have earned 27 points and occupy sixth place.
SpongeBob Square Pants invades Sharks Home Game...
On Saturday, December 16, the Worcester Sharks will play host to the Manchester Monarchs in their only home game of the week. It's Charter Night at the DCU Center and SpongeBob Square Pants will be making a special appearance. The first 3,000 fans will receive a Sharks 2006-07 season Team Poster. It's another Saturday Night Signing and the whole team will be present in the Box Office Lobby to autograph the team poster! The game marks the second Kids Club of the season, presented by the Telegram and Gazette.
Save the Date...
The Worcester Sharks will kick off their inaugural Hats and Mittens Holiday Skate with the Sharks on December 17 at the Charles Buffone Rink on Lake Avenue in Worcester. From 4-6 p.m. fans will have the opportunity to skate with the team, listen to Holiday tunes, enjoy hot chocolate, take pictures and get autographs. Everyone's favorite Mascot FINZ will also be on hand, as well as a special visit from Santa Claus. Admission is free but a donation of Hats and/or Mittens are strongly encouraged to benefit Community Healthlink!
FIREWORKS!!!
On Saturday, December 30, the Sharks will have a Fireworks display inside the DCU Center following a game against the Portland Pirates. The Sharks urge fans to attend the game and enjoy the post-game fireworks to ring in the New Year with a "bang!!" Saturday night means another Saturday Night Signing following the fireworks display.
