Albany River Rats News Release
The Albany River Rats enter the week riding a three-game winning streak and have earned standings points in six of their last seven games (5-1-1-0). News, notes and storylines heading into this week's action:
* The River Rats earned their 13th victory December 9 with a 2-1 win against Providence in their 26th game - the fastest the club has reached 13 wins since 1998-99 (21st game). The River Rats did not record their 13th win last season until their 39th game.
* At 13-11-2-0 the River Rats are two games above .500 for the second time this season (3-1-0-0). They have not been three games above .500 since they were 4-1-1-1 in 2004-05.
* Goaltender Justin Peters is the River Rats nomination for CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending December 10, 2006. Peters went 2-0-0 with a 0.50 GAA and .981 SPCT in two games last week, stopping 53 of 54 shots faced including his first professional shutout December 8 against Springfield (4-0). A second-round pick by Carolina in 2004, Peters has started each of the past five games, going 3-2-0 with a 2.16 GAA and .928 SPCT in that stretch.
* Center Ben Guite has recorded points in each of his last five games (three goals, three assists). His current point streak is the second longest of his six-year AHL career. The Montreal, Quebec native had a career-high six-game point streak (five goals, four assists) with Providence last season. Guite is currently taking online classes working towards his masters' degree.
* Right wing Cody McComick has a goal and an assist with a plus-3 rating in his first two games with the River Rats after being assigned December 7 by Colorado. Both of McCormick's parents have roots with native Canadian tribes. His mother is a member of the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation in Ontario, while his father is a member of the Batchewana tribe in Sault Ste. Marie.
