Bridgeport Islanders News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA -- Micheal Haley scored the game-winning goal and Nathan Lawson made 37 saves as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Springfield Falcons, 3-2, Friday night at the MassMutual Center. The Sound Tigers snapped a three game losing skid with the victory, improving to 20-17-1-2 at the exact halfway point of their 2009-10 season.

The Sound Tigers got on the board early on as Greg Moore scored a shorthanded goal 4:41 into the game. After knocking the puck out into the neutral zone, Moore raced ahead of the Falcons player and grabbed the loose puck, moving in and slipping a backhand shot past Devan Dubnyk to tally his eighth goal of the year.

Jesse Joensuu made it 2-0 Bridgeport with 2:51 left in the first period. Trevor Smith carried the puck into the offensive zone and slid the puck through the slot to Joensuu who blasted a one-timer past Dubnyk and into the back of the net.

Springfield cut its deficit in half with 3:31 left in the second period. Rob Hisey fired a shot on goal that Lawson made a glove save on. However, as the rest of the Falcons crashed the net, Lawson was unable to control the rebound and the puck trickled behind him.

Liam Reddox tied the game for the Falcons with 8:18 left in regulation. After Lawson turned aside an initial scoring chance by Hisey, Reddox pounced on the loose rebound and sent the puck through Lawson's pads for his sixth goal of the year, making the score 2-2. However, just 36 seconds later, Haley snagged a head-long pass from Justin DiBenedetto and fired a shot high over Dubnyk's glove to give the Sound Tigers the lead for good. It was Haley's third tally of the season.

The Falcons finished the game with a 39-30 shots on goal advantage. Dubnyk's best save came on a breakaway by James Sixsmith shortly after Bridgeport's first goal. Lawson made several athletic saves throughout the game, including one sequence in which his facemask was knocked off. There were also several flurries which saw Lawson end up sprawled on the ice on his back while making a save.

The Sound Tigers and Falcons close out their home-and-home series Saturday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Face-off is set for 7:00 pm and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Pascal Morency Bobblehead Doll courtesy of Newtown Savings Bank.
