
Ottawa Senators Recall Forwards Zack Smith And Martin St. Pierre From Binghamton

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 8, 2010) - The Ottawa Senators have recalled forwards Zack Smith and Martin St. Pierre from the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
Smith, 21, has recorded six goals, 10 assists and 72 penalty minutes while appearing in each of Binghamton's 34 games this season. He ranks third on the club in penalty minutes and is tied for sixth among all B-Sens in goals. Now in his second professional season, Smith has played 103 career AHL regular-season games (all with Binghamton), recording 30 goals, 34 assists and 204 penalty minutes.
The native of Maple Creek, Sask., was recalled once by the Senators last season and made his National Hockey League debut in Ottawa's 4-2 loss at the New York Islanders on Nov. 29, 2008. He was held scoreless with no penalty minutes in logging 7:01 time-on-ice.
A co-winner of the B-Sens' 2008-09 rookie-of-the-year award, Smith was Ottawa's third-round selection (79th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
St. Pierre, 26, has scored 14 goals and added 21 assists for a team-leading 35 points in 34 games with the B-Sens. He was recently named to the Canadian all-star team for the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic to be played on Jan. 19..
The 5-9, 179-pound native of Embrun, Ont., signed a one-year contract with Ottawa on July 1, 2009. In 35 career NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins, he has recorded three goals, five assists and 12 penalty minutes.
St. Pierre signed as a free agent with Chicago on Nov. 3, 2005. He saw action with its AHL affiliates during his three seasons in the organization, and recorded four points (1-3) and eight penalty minutes in 21 NHL games with the Blackhawks. In three call-ups to the Boston Bruins in 2008-09, he recorded two goals and two assists in 14 games. With Boston's AHL affiliate in Providence, he tied for the lead in team scoring with 15 goals, 51 assists and 58 penalty minutes over 61 games.
The B-Sens (fifth East Division, 15-15-3-1, 34 points) return to action this evening when they host the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m.
