Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Lake Erie Monsters 3-1 on Friday night in front of 3,277 fans at Copps Coliseum. Ben Maxwell and Brock Trotter each had two point nights to lead the âDogs to victory.
Following a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs opened the game's scoring at 11:54 of the second stanza. Trotter sent the puck to Ben Maxwell, who skated down the left side and rifled a shot over the glove of Lake Erie starting goaltender Tyler Weiman.
The Bulldogs extended their lead while on the power play at 19:30 of the middle frame. Maxwell sent a pass to Yannick Weber, who was positioned at the point. Weber fired a one-timer that was stopped by Weiman. The Monsters' goaltender could not control the rebound and Trotter banged the loose puck over the goal line for his 11th goal of the season.
Lake Erie got on the score board 12 seconds into the final frame. Brian Willsie sent a pass to Ryan Stoa, who was positioned in the slot. Stoa ripped a shot that sailed over the glove of Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.
The Bulldogs sealed the victory at 19:18 of the final frame. With Weiman on the bench for the extra Lake Erie attacker, P.K. Subban collected the puck in his own zone before flipping the puck into the neutral zone. Mathieu Darche won a foot race with a Monsters defender and gained possession of the puck before sliding it into the open net.
The Bulldogs will host the Grand Rapids Griffins tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum.
