Sound Tigers Fall In Search Of Eighth Straight Win

Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers had their seven-game winning streak snapped Saturday night, falling to the Worcester Sharks by a final score of 2-1. Joey Diamond had the Sound Tigers lone goal, sandwiched between a pair of markers for Worcester, all in the first period. Kevin Poulin, who was loaned to the Sound Tigers earlier in the day, started for the Sound Tigers and made a total of 25 saves.
The Sharks opened the scoring at the 5:38 mark of the first period on Freddie Hamilton's team-leading 16th goal of the season. Hamilton skated into the Sound Tigers zone up the middle and let loose a wrist shot from the high slot. Poulin made the save, but the rebound kicked out front and Hamilton followed his shot for the putback goal.
Diamond answered just over two minutes later on his seventh of the season. Diamond blocked a Worcester shot in his own zone, then raced to the loose puck in neutral ice. He got there, found himself on a partial breakaway and slipped it through the five hole of Sharks goaltender Harri Sateri to tie the score at one.
As time wound down in the first, however, the Sharks got what was eventually the game-winning goal. Worcester attempted to wrap the puck around the boards from Dan DaSilva, and beat Poulin with a snapshot to give Worcester the lead.
The second period did not provide much offense for either team. Shots were tied at eight apiece in the middle frame, but the quality scoring chances were few and far between. It remained a 2-1 game heading into the third period.
The Sound Tigers played their best period in the final 20 minutes, but their 10 shots were not enough to beat Sateri. Their best chance was not technically a shot on goal, as Matt Donovan rang a shot off the post from the right circle on a Sound Tigers power play.
With 1:16 to play, Poulin headed to the bench in favor of the extra attacker, but Sateri shut the door and the Sound Tigers dropped their first game since Feb. 8 against the Albany Devils. The Sound Tigers will host the Utica Comets Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m as they wrap up a three-in-three weekend.
