Worcester Sharks News Release
Bridgeport, CT - The Worcester Sharks (24-26-3-1, 52pts) snapped a seven game skid with a 2-1 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (26-25-1-4, 57pts) in front of 5,711 fans at the Webster Bank Arena on Saturday evening.
Freddie Hamilton scored his team leading 16th goal of the season while Travis Oleksuk (12th) scored in his second straight game for the eventual game winner late in the first period. Harri Sateri made 25 saves in net for the victory as the Sharks snapped the Sound Tigers seven game win streak with the 2-1 victory.
Worcester would grab their first lead in 425:38 as Freddie Hamilton (16th) fired home his own rebound past goaltender Kevin Poulin at 5:38 to give the Sharks a 1-0 advantage. The lead did not last long as just 2:01 later Joe Diamond (7th) blocked a point shot in the Sound Tigers zone and raced out for a breakaway score at 7:39 past Harri Sateri to even the score at 1-1. Worcester retook the lead at 19:46 after a series of tic-tac-toe passing from Yanni Gourde to Dan DaSilva that found Travis Oleksuk (12th) in the left slot and Oleksuk buried a one timer through a screen. Worcester outshot Bridgeport 14-8 through 20 minutes.
Both teams fired eight shots in a scoreless middle frame as Jimmy Bonneau hit the iron with a shot from 70 feet for a near Sharks score. Worcester led 2-1 after 40 minutes and held a 22-16 shot advantage through two periods.
Bridgeport outshot Worcester 10-5 in the third period aided by a three minute major power play midway through the period. Dan DaSilva was ejected for cross checking at 7:40 during a near line brawl that broke out after Matt Donovan clocked DaSilva with a booming check after an off sides call. Daniil Tarasov had an insurance goal waved off late in the period as Harri Sateri stood tall in the final frame as the Sharks held on for their first victory post All-Star break.
The Sharks overall record improves to 24-26-3-1, 52pts and 12-15-3-0, 27pts on the road.
