Wolf Pack Outlast Pirates 4-2

Hartford, CT- The Portland Pirates were unable to complete a comeback in Hartford, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Wolfpack Saturday night. Jordan Martinook and Andy Miele scored for the Pirates in the defeat.

The Wolfpack struck first. Danny Syvret beat Louis Domingue stick side during 4 on 4 play to give Hartford a 1-0 lead at 6:40 of the first. T.J. Hensick scored next for the Wolfpack on the rebound with 10:05 left in the first. Dylan McIllrath then made it 3-0 Hartford at 14:01 of the first, running over Domingue on the play. Mark Visentin replaced Domingue in net after the injury and was solid for the Pirates, stopping all 3 shots he faced in the first. Jordan Martinook would get the Pirates on the board, scoring his 8th goal of the year with 8.2 seconds left in the first.

After a scoreless second, Andy Miele would bring the Pirates within 1, scoring is 23rd goal of the year with 15:43 left in regulation. Daine Todd and Brandon Gormley picked up assists on Miele's 58th career goal for Portland, tying him for 13th place with Matt Herr. The Pirates pressured Dov Grumet-Morris for the remainder of the period, but the Hartford goaltender was up to the task. Arron Asham sealed the game for Hartford with the empty net goal with 47.9 left in regulation.

Mark Visentin was great in relief of Louis Domingue, stopping all 16 shots he faced in 35 minutes of action. Domingue did finish the game as the backup after being knocked down in the first period. The loss guarantees that Hartford wins the season series against Portland, with the last game of the regular season between the two teams tomorrow.

The Pirates will finish their home and home with Hartford tomorrow at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. Puck drop is 4 PM. Tomorrow's game is American Heart Association Cardiac Night presented by Central Maine Medical Center. The Pirates will wear their red road jerseys to raise awareness for cardiac health and will host fundraisers for cardiac causes. Visit portlandpirates.com for all the details.
