Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (33-17-1-5) were defeated by the Providence Bruins by the final score of 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night at the MassMutual Center.

Justin Florek's conversion in the eighth round of the shootout clinched the victory for the Bruins, as each team only converted one in its first seven chances. Carter Camper converted for Springfield, while Seth Griffith did the same for the Bruins.

Sean Collins scored his 10th goal of the season, deflecting a point shot in front that slipped past Providence netminder Malcolm Subban to even the score at 2-2 with 6:46 remaining in regulation. For Collins, the tally was his second in as many games.

Ryan Craig got the Falcons on the board with a power-play goal at the 15:10 mark of the first period, burying a loose puck in front past Subban to tie the game at 1-1. The score was Craig's 32nd power-play goal as a Falcon, the most in franchise history.

Seth Griffith gave Providence a 1-0 lead, notching a power-play goal just 2:57 into the contest. After Craig's equalizer, Alexander Khokhlachev regained the lead for the Bruins with a breakaway goal at 6:16 of the second period.

Mike McKenna made 27 saves on 29 shots through regulation and overtime. The St. Louis native stopped six of eight shootout attempts against him. McKenna is now 15-7-1 this season and 5-1 in shootouts.

Subban stopped 29 of 31 shots in 65:00 of action, while denying the Falcons on seven of eight shootout attempts. The rookie goaltender is now 10-7-3 this season.
