Sound Tigers drop weekend pair in Norfolk

The Sound Tigers lost two games on the road to the Norfolk Admirals this past weekend, falling 5-2 Friday and 4-3 Saturday. They finished last week in sixth place in the East Division with 31 points and a 15-18-1 record, including 13-5 at home and 2-13-1 on the road.

FRI JAN 7th at NOR, 5-2 L: MATT KEITH led Norfolk with a goal and three assists while JIM VANDERMEER, PAVEL VOROBIEV and MIKHAIL YAKUBOV had two points apiece for the Admirals who were 3 for 4 on the power play, 5 for 5 on the penalty kill and had a 37-25 shots on goal advantage. BARRETT HEISTEN and RYAN KRAFT scored for the Sound Tigers.

SAT JAN 8th at NOR, 4-3: In a game that had three lead changes, 133 penalty minutes and a penalty shot attempt; PAVEL VOROBIEV, JAMES WISNIEWSKI, RENE BOURQUE and DUNCAN KEITH scored for Norfolk while BARRETT HEISTEN tallied once and RYAN KRAFT scored twice for the Sound Tigers. MICHEAL LEIGHTON stopped SEAN BERGENHEIM on the penalty shot late in the third period to hold onto the one-goal lead for the Admirals. Both teams were 2 for 9 on the power play. Norfolk had a 29-23 shots on goal advantage.

SOUND TIGERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – LW BARRETT HEISTEN

Heisten returned to the ice after missing six games with a groin injury and had a goal and an assist Friday. He also scored a power-play goal Saturday. The Anchorage, Alaska native finished last week with four goals, six assists, ten points and 30 penalty minutes and at a +4 in 25 games this season.

THIS WEEK – Road stretch ends with four games in five days The Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of seven straight road games by playing four times in five days this week. They will visit the Hartford Wolf Pack Wednesday, the Providence Bruins Friday, Hartford again Saturday and the Lowell Lock Monsters Sunday evening.

WED JAN 12th at HAR, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the fifth of ten meetings of the teams this season, the second of five in Hartford. The Sound Tigers are 18-13-3 all-time, 1-3 this season with a road loss, versus the Wolf Pack who finished last week in second place in the Atlantic Division and overall AHL standings with 55 points, one behind the Manchester Monarchs, and a 26-9-1-2 record, including 17-3-0-1 at home and 8-2 in the last ten games. Hartford is off until Wednesday.

FRI JAN 14th at PRO, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the second of four meetings of the teams this season, the first of two in Providence. The Sound Tigers are 3-7-3 all-time versus the Bruins, including 1-0 this season and an overtime loss and a tie on the road last year. Providence finished last week in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 46 points and a 19-12-2-6 record, including 11-2-2-1 at home and 5-2-0-3 in the last ten games but winless in two a row at 0-1-0-1. The Bruins are off until Friday.

SAT JAN 15th at HAR, 7:35 p.m.: This will be the sixth of ten meetings of the teams this season, the third of five in Hartford. Following Wednesday's game versus the Sound Tigers, the Wolf Pack will visit the Albany River Rats Friday. Saturday's contest will be the sixth of the ten-game GEICO CONNECTICUT CUP. SUN JAN 16th at LOW, 4 p.m.: This will be the second of four meetings of the teams this season, the first of two in Lowell. The Sound Tigers are 7-3-1 all-time, including 1-0 this season and 2-0 on the road last year, versus the Lock Monsters who finished last week in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 44 points and a 20-10-1-3 record, including 13-3-0-1 at home, 6-2-0-2 in the last ten games and on a three-game winning streak. Lowell will visit the Springfield Falcons Friday and the Portland Pirates Saturday.
