
Skate During National Skating Week

The public is encouraged to skate and celebrate National Skating Week at all four area Flyers Skate Zone locations from Saturday, January 15 through Sunday, January 23. In addition, all Flyers Skate Zone locations will host a special mid-afternoon ice skating party on Monday, January 17, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with two Philadelphia Phantoms player appearances, chances to win Smucker's Stars On Ice tickets, and free ice skate rental with every paid skating admission ($6). This public ice skating session will include a live DJ, light show, prize giveaways, and on ice contests at the Polonia Bank Flyers Skate Zone at Northeast Philadelphia and the Sovereign Bank Flyers Skate Zone at Voorhees locations.
Philadelphia Phantoms players scheduled to appear at the special mid-afternoon skating party on Monday, January 17, include Northeast Philadelphia native Tony Voce and Stephen Wood at the Polonia Bank Flyers Skate Zone at Northeast Philadelphia (10990 Decatur Road; 215-618-0050); B.J. Abel and David Printz at the Sovereign Bank Flyers Skate Zone at Pennsauken (6725 River Road; 856-488-9300); R.J. Umberger and Riley Cote at the Sovereign Bank Flyers Skate Zone at Voorhees (601 Laurel Oak Road; 856-309-4400). The Atlantic City location will feature members of the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. Players' schedules are subject to change.
Anyone who visits a Flyers Skate Zone location during National Skating Week is eligible to win a family four pack of tickets to Smucker's On Ice at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ, on Thursday, February 24 or at the Wachovia Center on Friday, February 25.
"The Flyers Skate Zone is dedicated to teaching the sport of skating to the community," said Comcast-Spectacor Vice President of Rink Management and Development Pat Ferrill. "Our celebration of National Skating Week proves our devotion to educating our current and future patrons to all aspects of the skating realm starting with our public skating sessions and progressing to the Learn To Skate and Learn To Play Hockey programs".
National Skating Week is sponsored by US Figure Skating (USFS), the official governing body for the sport of figure skating. National Skating Week kicks off on Saturday, January 15, and runs through Sunday, January 23, 2005. Ice skating clubs and skating facilities all over the country will be participating in the celebration.
The Flyers Skate Zones offer a variety of ice skating programs including Learn To Skate, Learn to Play Hockey, and daily public skating hours. Daily public skating hours are Monday through Sunday 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday nights 8 until 10 p.m. With the purchase of a public skating admission, a Philadelphia Phantoms ticket is free. Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey programs are structured for the beginner skater ready to learn the basics in the sport. The Flyers Skate Zone is a great place to plan your next birthday party or group outing.
There are four Flyers Skate Zones with locations in Atlantic City, Pennsauken, and Voorhees, NJ, and Northeast Philadelphia, PA.
