Providence Bruins News Release

The Providence Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence after six consecutive road games to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, January 14 at 7:05 p.m. The night will be one of history for the AHL's fourth-longest serving active franchise, as the Bruins become the 14th team in the 69-year history of the AHL to play 1,000 games. The Bruins have a 455-442-102 record in their history, including a mark of 273-184-41 on home ice. The first 4,000 fans in attendance on Friday will receive a free Providence Bruins hat, courtesy of the Rhode Island Lottery and WPRI CBS-12.

The Bruins also host the Worcester IceCats on Sunday, January 16 at 4:05 p.m. The game will be televised live on COX Sports Television. Corey Masse (play-by-play) and Boston Bruins legend and Hockey Hall of Fame member Gerry Cheevers (color analyst) bring you the action.

The Providence Bruins begin the week in fourth place in the Atlantic Division, with their 19-12-2-6 record (46 points), one point behind Worcester. Head coach Scott Gordon's club was 3-2-0-1 on its six-game road swing, taking seven points. The Black and Gold is 5-2-0-3 in its last 10 games, earning 13 points over that stretch. A key in the success of the team is the power play unit, which ranks third in the league at 19.8% (35/177). The Bruins' have the AHL's top power play unit on home ice, clicking at a success rate of 28.8% (19/66).

Bruin left wing Andy Hilbert tallied his third career hat trick, along with an assist, in Sunday's wild 8-7 shootout loss in Lowell. Hilbert's third goal was his 19th of the season, and tied him with the late Sergei Zholtok for the franchise career mark of 83 goals. Hilbert reached that plateau in 194 games, while Zholtok set the record in 196 games from 1992-95. The four point effort moved the 23-year-old Hilbert into third place on the all-time franchise career scoring list, with 173 points. Only former Bruin Andre Savage (175) and Zholtok (186) remain in front of the former University of Michigan star. Hilbert, the Boston Bruins' third pick, 37th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, leads the team and is tied for sixth in AHL scoring with 19-23-42 totals in 39 games. He also leads the league with 165 shots on goal.

Providence center Patrice Bergeron returned to the Bruins on Wednesday after leading Canada to its first Gold Medal in the World Junior Championships since 1997. Bergeron was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after being the top scorer, with 5-8-13 totals in six games. He jumped right back into action with the Bruins, tallying a goal and four assists over the weekend. The 19-year-old native of Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec ranks third on the team with 11-21-32 totals in 28 games.
