1/12/05 @ Syracuse â Nationwide Arena in Columbus â 7:00pm FSN Ohio/1420-AM/sportstalkcleveland.com
The Barons will play the Syracuse Crunch for the first time this season on Wednesday. Moved to Nationwide Arena, the game between the Barons and Crunch was originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, March 27th in Syracuse. The game will be aired live on FSN Ohio. The telecast will mark the first Barons game to be televised locally in their four-season history. Calling the action on the telecast is the Blue Jackets new broadcast duo, Jeff Rimer and Brian Engblom.
1/14 & 15/05 @ Syracuse â Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter â 7:30pm
These two meetings with the Crunch will be the second and third contests of the Barons three consecutive games against them. Garrett Stafford enjoyed playing against the Crunch last season. In eight games, the defenseman totaled four goals and five assists. Crunch forward Brad Moran leads the all-time series in points with 20 (13-7-20). Moran is hot as of late. In the Crunch's last five games, Moran leads the team with 6 points (4-2-6). The Barons are 8-14-1-1 against the Crunch in the lifetime series.
Cleveland Barons Hockey Insider Show The Cleveland Barons Hockey Insider Show will make its debut on Monday, January 10th from 8-9pm on SportsTalk 850-AM WKNR. The weekly show will be hosted by The Voice of the Barons Jamie Smock and Jason Gibbs, Promotions Director for WKNR. The show can also be heard on www.sportstalkcleveland.com.
Money In The "Bank" National City Rink has been kind to the Barons lately. In their last 16 games on National City Rink, the Barons are 10-5-0-1. In The Barons have not allowed a power play goal in over four home games. They have killed 15 consecutive penalties on home ice.
It's Great At The Gund
Gund Arena has been kind to its home teams since November 10th. Combined, the Barons (10-5-0-1) and Cavaliers (13-2) are 23-7-0-1 since that date. In hockey terms, that is a combined winning percentage of .758.
Natural Born Killers The Barons have successfully killed off their last 15 penalties dating back to 1/5. In the last eight games, the Barons have a 93.9% success rate in killing penalties (31/33). The Barons have allowed just nine power play goals in the last 21 games. They have killed 80 out of a possible 89 penalties in that span for an 89.9% success rate on the PK.
Passing Proficiency
The last 18 power play goals by the Barons have been assisted by two players. The Barons currently have 29 power play goals this season. With 56 assists, all but one of those goals has been accompanied by two assists. The one goal that did not have two assists came on November 6th in the Barons win over Hamilton in overtime. The Barons first goal of the game, scored by Christian Ehrhoff on the power play, was assisted by Marcel Goc.
Barons Player of the Week
The Cleveland Barons Player of the Week is defenseman Jim Fahey. On the week, Fahey totaled 1 goal and 2 assists in five games. He finished the week as a +1. Fahey scored the game's first goal on Tuesday's game against Manitoba. He then assisted on the Barons second goal in that contest. Fahey assisted on the Barons second goal in the win against Grand Rapids. It added to his team-leading 8 power play assists.
The Clowe-ser
Ryane Clowe has been on fire over the last 14 games. In that 14-game span, Clowe has 15 points (4-11-15) and a +7 plus/minus rating. He has recorded one point in the last 12 out of the last 20 games. His 28 points, 20 assists, and +8 plus/minus rating all lead the Barons. Clowe has been productive on the power play as he is tied for the team lead with 11 points and five power play goals. Clowe's four-point performance on 12/12 against Cincinnati tied a career-high and set the Barons season-high mark.
Air Ehrhoff
Christian Ehrhoff's three game-winning goals are tied for first among defensemen. Ehrhoff leads the Barons in shots with 135 on the season. Those 135 shots lead all AHL defensemen and are tied for 5th overall. Ehrhoff tied a Barons franchise record on November 6th against Hamilton with 10 shots. Ehrhoff is also mixed in the defenseman leader board in several other categories including: goals (T-2nd, 7), power play goals (T-2nd, 5), and points (T-14th,19).
Riss Shot
Patrick Rissmiller surpassed Tavis Hansen on the all-time Barons scoring list with his two-goal performance against Grand Rapids. He now has 41 goals in his three seasons. His 109 points are second on the franchise's all-time point list. He is chasing Miroslav Zalesak who is atop the list with 166 points. Rissmiller leads the Barons with 13 goals this season. His 24 points (13-11-22) and 111 shots are both second on the Barons. Rissmiller is tied for the team lead with 5 multi-point games this season.
