Admirals score nine goals in sweep of Bridgeport

NORFOLK, VA - Norfolk hosted Bridgeport for a pair of matches this past weekend, erupting for nine goals in the two games to sweep the series. On Saturday, January 7th, Matt Keith had four points while Mikhail Yakubov, Jim Vandermeer and Pavel Vorobiev chipped in two points each as the Ads downed the Sound Tigers 5-2. The next night, Rene Bourque and Duncan Keith scored 50 seconds apart in the third period to give the Admirals a 4-3 come-from-behind victory.

Norfolk hosts Hershey on Wednesday and Philadelphia on Friday then travels to Pennsylvania to play the Bears again on Saturday and the Phantoms on Sunday.

STANDINGS

Norfolk is tied for third place in the East with 44 points (20-15-1-3) along with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (18-11-4-4, 44 pts). They trail Philadelphia (24-8-2-3, 53 pts) and Binghamton (20-14-3-2, 45 pts). Hershey (19-17-1-0, 39 points) is fifth followed by Bridgeport (15-18-1-0, 31 pts) and Albany (9-20-4-4, 26 pts).

· The Admirals have outshot their opponents 424-269 over their last 11 games, posting at least 29 shots in each game and holding the opposition to 23 shots or fewer six times.

· Norfolk has outshot the opposition 1,279-1,046 this season for a difference of 233 shots. They have the largest shot total and the highest shot differential in the league.

· When the Admirals scored thrice on the power play against Bridgeport on January 7th, it was the first time they recorded more than two power play goals in one game since February 27, 2003 vs. Binghamton.

· Matt Keith had a four-point night (1g, 3a) vs. Bridgeport on January 7th. He is the first Admiral to pick up at least four points in one game since Brett McLean (2g, 3a) and Marty Wilford (4a) did so on October 8, 2003 at Wilkes-Barre.

· Mikhail Yakubov had a four-game point streak (2g, 4a) snapped when he was held without a point Jan. 8th.

· Rene Bourque has seven points (5g, 2a) over the last nine games.

· Michael Leighton has won four consecutive starts (since December 29th at Philadelphia) and four straight home games (since December 15th vs. Manchester).
