Sound Tigers Cap Season With Win

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers ended the 2006-07 campaign with a 5-3 win over the Norfolk Admirals on Sunday afternoon. The Sound Tigers came from behind in the third period to capture knock off one of the league's top teams before 5,353 fans at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard.

After the Admirals fought back from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead early in the third, Bridgeport's Steve Regier tied the game, Masi Marjamaki regained the lead and Kyle Rank sealed the win with an empty-netter. The Sound Tigers finished the campaign with a record of 36-37-1-6 and the Admirals advance to the playoffs as the East Division's third seed with a record of 50-22-6-2.

Regier had a goal and two assists and goaltender Michael Mole stopped 31 shots for the Sound Tigers. Martin St. Pierre had a goal and two assists and Pierre Parenteau had two assists for the Admirals.

The Sound Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of first period power play goals. Sergei Ogorodnikov (just 1:39 into the game) and Tomas Malec (at 10:11 of the opening period) both scored on rebounds.

The Admirals scored twice in the second period when St. Pierre and Parenteau each assisted on a two goals - one by Troy Brower at 2:54 of the middle period and the other off the stick of Bryan Bickell at the 15:08 mark - to tie the game. Norfolk took its first lead, 3-2, on St. Pierre's 27th goal of the season after a turnover in the Sound Tigers' zone 2:18 into the third.

Bridgeport came back to tie the game less than a minute later. Regier weaved through the defense and slipped the puck past Norfolk goalie Mike Brodeur at 3:14 of the period for his 19th tally to make it a 3-3 game. Marjamaki scored the decisive goal, shorthanded, when he knocked down a long pass from defenseman Rick Berry and came in one-on-one on Brodeur to score his sixth of the season at the 8:33 mark. Rank's second of the year into the empty net at 19:02 made it 5-3.
