Marlies Announce Year-End Award Winners

proud member of the American Hockey League, the Toronto Marlies announced on Sunday the recipients of seven of their eight annual awards prior to the start of the team's regular-season finale against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Six different players were presented one of the team's trophies along with a plaque and an in-game photo of their likeness to signify their achievement throughout the 2006-07 campaign. Team captain Marc Moro was recognized as the team's Most Valuable Player for the first time after winning two of the team's awards in the club's inaugural season of 2005-06. Moro, a Toronto native, was also recognized with the Player's Choice Award, underlining his professionalism, dedication and commitment to teammates. Toronto rookies Jaime Sifers (Rookie of the Year), Jeff Corey (Community Service) and Justin Pogge (Fan's Choice) were recognized with awards in each of their first full season of professional hockey, while second year Marlies Brad Leeb (Player Most Exemplifying Sportsmanship & Dedication) and Staffan Kronwall (Best Defenceman) were first-time recipients. Centre Erik Westrum was recognized for being the team's top scorer at the conclusion of the Marlies' 5-1 win over the Griffins.

The 2006-07 Calder Cup Playoffs get underway this Wednesday evening when Hershey plays host to Albany in central Pennsylvania.
