
Monarchs Drop Final Game To Providence In Overtime

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Providence Bruins 1-0 in overtime to tie a franchise record of 110 points in one season in front of 7,615 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday evening. The Monarchs will meet the Worcester Sharks in the first round of the 2007 Calder Cup playoffs on Wednesday, April 18 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
Manchester (51-21-7-1) ends the season atop the Atlantic Division with 110 points. Providence (44-30-2-4, 94 points) finishes the season in third place in the Atlantic Division
A total of 52 shots were taken in over 62 minutes of play without a goal being scored. The game came down to one goal at the 2:47 mark of overtime. Providence center Marco Rosa carried the puck down the left wing boards and sent a pass to defenseman Jason Platt who skated toward the Monarchs net. Platt fought off a Monarchs defenseman, turned around and backhanded the puck between Monarchs goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji and the left goal post for the lone tally of the game.
Fukufuji took his first loss of the season stopping 29-of-30 shots. Bruins goaltender Jordan Sigalet earned the shutout with 23 saves.
Manchester went 0-for-7 with the man advantage. Providence was 0-for-3 on the power play.
