Manitoba Moose News Release
With Sunday's conclusion of the 2006-07 American Hockey League regular season, the Manitoba Moose officially finished first in AHL's North Division for the first time ever in their franchise history. They also ended up in second in the Western Conference, two points behind the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights. The Moose will now open their best-of-seven North Division Semi-Final with Game 1 going Thursday, April 19th at the MTS Centre against the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7:30 p.m..
For the third consecutive year, the Moose improved their overall point total as they finished the season with a record of 45-25-7-5 for 102 points. Those totals represent the second-highest in franchise history in terms of points and wins (47 wins for 108 points in 1998-99). Head Coach Scott Arniel's team also set a new franchise standard for wins at home in a season with 25, as well as a new record for the longest home-ice winning streak with nine straight victories at the MTS Centre from Feb. 3/07 to March 10/07. In fact, from Feb. 10/07 to March 18/07, the Moose won 17 of 18 games. Forward Jason Jaffray finished sixth in the AHL in both scoring with 81 points and goal-scoring with 35 goals - both of which were career highs to lead the Moose. Brad Moran tied his career best with 72 points (25G, 47A), while Lee Goren ended up just one point shy of this best season with 68 points (26G, 42). Goaltender Drew MacIntyre set new franchise standards in net with a 2.17 goals against average and a .922 save percentage. He ended up third in league among its leading goalies.
