Orlando Solar Bears News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, are excited to announce that rookie forward T.J. Foster has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 16-22.
Foster scored four goals and added four assists for eight points in three games last week. He is the fifth player in Solar Bears history to receive Player of the Week honors, and the first since Taylor Matson for the week of Feb. 17-23, 2014.
The 23-year-old scored the game-winning goal in overtime and added an assist in a 6-5 win at Greenville on Tuesday, picked up a hat trick in addition to an assist in a 6-4 victory at Evansville on Friday and had a pair of assists in a 4-3 shootout loss at Cincinnati on Saturday.
Under contract to the Toronto Marlies, Foster has 11 points (6g-5a) in 12 games with the Solar Bears this season.
Prior to turning pro, Foster scored 65 points (23g-42a) in 52 games with the University of Alberta while recording 256 points (101g-155a) in 338 career games with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League.
On behalf of T.J. Foster, a case of pucks will be donated to the Orlando Youth Hockey Association by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck provider of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 33,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
The Solar Bears continue their fourth season in the ECHL, presented by Auto Justice Attorney Michael T. Gibson, P.A. on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 7:00 p.m. against the South Carolina Stingrays.
