Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards' Steve Michalek has been named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for November 16 through November 22, the Mallards announced today in conjunction with the ECHL.

Michalek, 22, last weekend won both of his starts while stopping 66 of 69 shots to post a 1.50 goals against average and .957 save percentage.

Michalek, who was the ECHL's Rookie of the Month for October, turned aside 26 shots in the Mallards' 4-2 win over the Alaska Aces last Friday. The 6' 2", 196-pound Hartford, Connecticut native then set a team season high by making 40 saves in Sunday's 2-1 victory over the Indy Fuel.

Michalek has gone 4-3-3 in ten games this season while posting a 2.37 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. He is tied for tenth overall in the ECHL in save percentage and ranks second among rookies in save percentage and fourth among first year netminders in goals against average.

Michalek was assigned to the Mallards by the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild on October 8. He turned professional this season after completing his college career at Harvard last year. Michalek last season went 21-13-3 with a 2.28 goals against average, a .924 save percentage and three shutouts and set a school record by playing in each of Harvard's 37 games last season while helping the Crimson to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship title and a berth in NCAA tournament. He was also a 2014-15 All-Ivy League Honorable Mention selection.

Over the course of his college career, Michalek went 33-28-13 while posting a 2.59 goals against average, a .914 save percentage and five shutouts in 79 games. He made the 2011-12 All-Ivy League Second Team after going 7-7-8 in 24 games and turning in a 3.19 goals against average and a .894 save percentage as a freshman.

Michalek was chosen by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round of the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft with the one hundred sixty-first overall selection. He spent part of the 2012-13 season with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the junior United States Hockey League before returning to Harvard. Michalek went 7-6-3 with a 3.09 goals against average and a .900 save percentage in 17 USHL games.

The Mallards are next in action on the road tomorrow night against the Missouri Mavericks. The Mallards next play at home Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Kalamazoo Wings. Friday will be Blackout Night: the Mallards will celebrate Black Friday by wearing special edition (nearly) all black sweaters against the Wings. Friday evening is also a $1 Beer/$1 Dog Night presented by 97X. Fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $1 beers at all Mallards' Friday night home games. In addition, Friday is a MetroLINK College Night.
