Walleye Notes
First home win of the season : Toledo picked up at least a point in all three games this past week starting Thursday with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Kalamazoo Wings. Forward Dominic Zombo scored his first career pro goal in the loss. Friday night, the Walleye scooted up to Brampton and erased a 2-1 deficit in the third period on goals from Max Gaede and Marek Tvrdon for a 3-2 win. Both Toledo and Fort Wayne racked up the points in a 6-4 Walleye win Saturday night at the Huntington Center.
Sellout the barn : Saturday night saw the second standing room only crowd (8,000) in just three home games played this season. A total of 22,165 fans have flooded the Huntington Center for an average per game of 7,388. An official sellout at the downtown home of the Walleye is 7,431.
Power play leads the way: In Saturday's six goal scoring spree the Walleye power play scored three times in four chances. Since a streak that saw Toledo go five games goalless in 23 opportunities, the Walleye power play has scored on 8 of the last 17 chances (47.1%) over the last five games. For the season, Toledo sits at 18.3% which ranks 10th in the ECHL.
Hirschfeld on a run of points : Forward Alden Hirschfeld picked up a pair of goals and a pair of assists in the three games this past week and has collected at least one point in six straight contests, the longest streak for any Walleye player this year. During the streak, he has scored five times with three assists. Hirschfeld leads the Walleye in goals scored (five have come on the power play) with eight total this year.
Bonis up to San Diego : Walleye forward Kyle Bonis has been loaned to the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League. Bonis has 9 points (5G, 4A) in 15 games played this year for the Walleye. For his career, the 26-year-old has 67 goals, 47 assists in 157 games played which includes 12 at the AHL level.
On the hook : Toledo plays another three in three this week starting Friday night at the Huntington Center against the Brampton Beast. Toledo is 2-1-0 vs. the Beast this year with Friday being the first ever meeting between the two teams coming in Toledo (seven games have been played in Brampton since 2014-15). Saturday night the Walleye head to Fort Wayne to take on the Komets. The two teams have split the first two meetings with home team each. The weekend concludes with a trip to Kalamazoo on Sunday. Toledo won 5-2 on October 23 in Kalamazoo in the first meeting in Michigan between the teams.
Promotions: Friday night's game-day theme is Frozen Princess Night featuring Ana and the Snow Queen and two pregame parties with Laurel's Princess Parties. Following the game is the first Post-Game party with the players in the Lighthouse Lounge on the Club Level.
