Manchester Monarchs News Release
DULUTH, Ga. - Goals from Austin Block and Tony Turgeon weren't enough for the Manchester Monarchs, as they fell, 3-2, to the Atlanta Gladiators Tuesday night at the Infinite Energy Arena.
The Monarchs (9-7-0-0) ended their three-game win streak, while the Gladiators (9-6-1-0) won for the second time in as many nights.
The Gladiators got off to an early start, scoring at 7:32 of the first period, when Tyler Murovich scored his 5th goal of the season. After a short scrum in front of the net, Murovich deflected a shot from Justin Buzzeo past Monarchs goaltender, Michael Houser, for the 1-0 lead.
Eric Neiley increased the Atlanta lead when he scored his 3rd goal of the season at 8:34 in the first period. After heavy pressure in the Monarchs zone, Neiley ripped a shot from the left point and beat Houser for the 2-0 Gladiators lead.
Austin Block brought the Monarchs within a goal, when he scored his 1st goal of the season. Just after a Gladiators penalty expired, Matt MacKenzie launched a slap shot from the right point that left a juicy rebound, and Block sent the puck into a wide-open net from just inside the left circle, beating down-and-out Gladiators goaltender, Andy Iles.
Atlanta took back their two-goal advantage when Justin Buzzeo scored his 2nd of the season at 4:29 of the final frame. Buzzeo took a stretch pass from Daniel Bahntge to spring him all alone on Houser, and Buzzeo made no mistake, beating Houser for the 3-1 lead.
Tony Turgeon cut the lead back to one, when he scored the first professional goal of his career just :10 seconds later. Off the face-off, Turgeon took a pass from Troy Power, skated into the offensive zone and wristed home the puck from the high slot.
The Monarchs would test Iles in the final moments of the game, but the goalie wouldn't be beaten again.
The Monarchs are back on the ice Thanksgiving night (7:05 p.m.), as they finish their short two-game set with the Gladiators at the Infinite Energy Arena.
