Power Play Goals and Pacan Lead Rays to 6-3 Win at Orlando
November 24, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
ORLANDO, FL-Four power play goals, and a third period hat trick from forward David Pacan earned the South Carolina Stingrays a 6-3 win over the Orlando Solar Bears on Tuesday day at the Amway Center.
South Carolina's power play, which had scored only five times in 64 attempts entering tonight's game, struck three times in the second period alone. After Denver Manderson had given Orlando a 1-0 lead 2:14 into the second period, the Stingrays notched back-to-back power play goals to take a 2-1 lead.
With Orlando's Mark Louis given four minutes in penalties, the Stingrays took full advantage. Brendan Ellis was credited with his third goal of the season at 4:44. He fired a shot from the right point that appeared to hit multiple sticks en route to the goal. The deflections fooled Orlando goalie Rob Madore to make it 1-1.
At 6:04, the Stingrays scored on the power play again. Andrew Rowe won an offensive zone faceoff. Brett Cameron snapped a quick shot from the slot that slid under the arm of Madore. The goal was Cameron's team-leading fifth goal of the season and gave South Carolina the lead.
Orlando would quickly respond less than a minute later on a goal by Brett Findlay at 7:04 to tie the game, 2-2. Eric Bradford found Findlay in the slot, and the forward notched his eighth goal of the season, beating Stingrays goaltender Mark Dekanich under the blocker.
However, it would be the power play that would respond again for South Carolina, along with a fortunate bounce. Ellis fired the puck into the Orlando zone. With Madore skating behind his goal, the puck hit the boards and hopped to the front of the vacated goal. Austin Fyten put the puck into the empty net for his second goal of the season at 12:55 to give the Stingrays a 3-2 lead.
Pacan took over the third period for South Carolina, scoring his first three goals of the season and notching a hat trick. He scored South Carolina's fourth power play goal at 12:59 of the third period to make it 4-2.
Less than two minutes later, he connected again at 14:29, snapping a shot from the slot off the post and past Madore's glove to make it 5-2 Stingrays.
After an Eric Faille goal for Orlando to cut the lead to two, the Solar Bears pulled Madore for an extra attacker. Pacan finished the hat trick, scoring into the empty net at 19:09.
The Stingrays fired a season high 40 shots, and scored a season-high six goals in the win. Dekanich stopped 24 shots to earn the win in goal.
The Stingrays continue their 10-game road trip in Orlando on Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop. Fans are invited to catch the games at the Official Watch Party Destination of the Stingrays, King Street Grille-Northwoods. All road games air at King Street Grille-Northwoods and fans 21 and up may enjoy a special offer of $3Â Drafts, including Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, Shocktop and Landshark during all Stingrays Watch Parties at King Street Grille.
