Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - Deyvi Jimenez pitched six innings of one run ball in leading the Beloit Snappers by the Fort Wayne TinCaps by a 7-1 score on Saturday night with 1,771 in attendance at Pohlman Field in Midwest League action.
The Snappers' fourth straight win keeps them in first place in the second half at 59-33 (16-6 in the second half). The TinCaps slide to 50-41 (7-15 in the second half).
Jimenez (2-0) kept his record with Beloit perfect with an outstanding performance. He gave up just five hits and didn't walk a batter in six frames. In the first three innings, Jimenez allowed the lead-off batter to reach, but just one run came from that, on an RBI double by Tyler Stubblefield (3-4, RBI) in the third. In his last three innings, Jimenez retired nine of ten before departing. He struck out a total of five on the night.
Two singles sandwiched around a walk began the top of the first for the Snappers and a Renato Nunez (3-5, 3 RBI) single plated two of those runners, putting Beloit out in front. Matt Olson then answered Fort Wayne's run in the third with a solo blast to left in the fourth off Bryan Rodriguez (1-4), his 12th of 2013.
The fifth inning was when the Snappers began to pull away. A hit batter and a double put two men in scoring position and Brett Vertigan picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly. An error put men on first and third and Nunez drove in his second run of the night with a ringing double to left. Two batters later, with the bases loaded, Ryan Mathews was plunked to push across the inning's third run for a 6-1 lead. Ryan Delgado came across with the final run in the eighth when, after doubling and moving to third on a groundout, he touched home on another ground ball.
Beloit's bullpen took over in the seventh and Tyler Vail was the first man in, throwing two innings without allowing a run. Kris Hall sealed the deal with a zero in the ninth.
On Sunday, the series' second game will pit Beloit's RHP Dakota Bacus (8-3, 3.95 ERA) against Fort Wayne's RHP Joe Ross (3-4, 4.07 ERA). The day's first pitch will be thrown at 2:00pm. The Snappers organization will pay tribute to our armed forces with camouflage National Guard jerseys. A silent auction for the jerseys will be held during the game and bidding starts at $55.00. Don't forget to check Sunday's Stateline News for your buy-one, get-one free coupon for Stateline News Family Fun Sunday. Ott Schweitzer Distributing Leinie's Day will also be included, meaning bottles of Leinenkugel will be only $2. At the end of the game, kids can play catch on the field and run the bases, weather permitting.
