Clinton LumberKings News Release
South Bend, IN - For the second straight game, the Clinton LumberKings came from behind to defeat the South Bend Silver Hawks. On Sunday afternoon, Marcus Littlewood turned the game around with a three-run home run in the sixth inning. The LumberKings earned the series win with the 6-2 victory.
Tyler Pike and Daniel Watts did not disappoint, as both teams' aces delivered in a pitcher's duel. Watts, the Midwest League leader in wins, did not allow a run through the first five innings. Pike kept South Bend in check with just four hits surrendered, but the Silver Hawks took a lead on a Roidany Aguila sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Trailing 1-0 after five, Clinton finally got to Watts with the help of the long ball. Janelfry Zorrilla reached on an error by shortstop Andrew Velazquez, proving crucial as the rally came with two outs. After Breland Almadova robbed Dario Pizzano of extra bases with a fully extended diving catch, the LumberKings kept the pressure on. Jabari Henry walked, setting up Marcus Littlewood for a three-run home run that barely sneaked inside the foul pole.
South Bend got one back off Pike in the sixth, but Clinton never relinquished the lead. The LumberKings added a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth on a two-run double by Henry.
Tyler Pike earned the win with six solid innings, though he was not at his best with five walks allowed. Blake Holovach backed up another quality start by Pike with his own impressive showing. Holovach picked up a nine-out save, the first of his career. The only base runner off Holovach came on an error.
Clinton goes for the series sweep of South Bend as they wrap up their Eastern division road trip on Monday night.
The LumberKings turn to right-hander Charles Kaalekahi (3-1, 4.85) for the finale, and the Silver Hawks counter with right-hander Brandon Sinnery (6-4, 3.07). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CT at Coveleski Stadium.
