Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - In the professional debut of Blue Jays 2013 draft pick Kendall Graveman, Michael Bolaski stole the show with a pair of home runs, powering the Burlington Bees (9-14, 34-53) to an 8-1 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (5-18, 37-55) at sweltering Cooley Law School Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Six of the eight runs scored by the Bees came as a direct result of a home run.
In the fourth inning, Andrew Ray blasted a two-run shot out of the park to left to break a scoreless deadlock and put Burlington up 2-0.
An inning later, Bolaski hit his first longball of the game, a solo blast to left-center to push the Bees up 3-0. After RBI singles from Chevy Clarke and Sherman Johnson in the seventh, Bolaski hit his second blast of the game in the eighth, a three-run homer to give the Bees an 8-1 lead.
Graveman, an eighth round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2013 MLB Draft, received the start for Lansing in his pro and pitched two scoreless innings. The 22-year old Mississippi State product allowed just one baserunner, a walk issued in the second. Of the six outs he recorded, five were hit on the ground.
The loss went to reliever Kramer Champlin (Loss, 4-2) who allowed three runs in four innings out of the bullpen. Champlin only allowed two hits however - both home runs - and struck out seven.
Burlington's starter Ryan Crowley (Win, 8-3) battled through five scoreless innings, stranding runners on base in first, third, fourth and in the fifth inning, he held the Lugs scoreless after loading the bases with one out. In total, he allowed just three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
The series finale is set for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch on Monday night. The Lugnuts will hand the ball to right-hander Javier Avendano (6-6, 4.12) while the Bees will go with lefty Nic DellaTorre (0-2, 3.41).
