Geneva, IL - The LumberKings let one slip away on Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark as Kane County snatched a 5-3 win to even the series.

Clinton led 2-0 after three innings when the trouble started for right-hander Bobby Shore. Jack Lopez singled to center to lead off the fourth inning and moved to second when Danny Mateo was hit by a pitch. Shore walked Julio Aparicio to load the bases with nobody out. Designated hitter Michael Antonio hit a slow roller to short for a 6-4 fielder's choice, which allowed Lopez to score to cut the lead to 2-1. With runners at the corners and one out, Shore got Alex Llanos to pop out in foul territory for out number two.

With a chance to get out of the inning with the lead intact, Shore delivered a 3-2 pitch low and to the backstop, allowing Mateo to score and even the game at 2-2. Shore then struck out Henry Moreno but a passed ball allowed him to reach and extend the inning. With the bases loaded and Kevin David batting, Shore uncorked his third wild pitch of the inning and Antonio scored to take a 3-2 lead.

The Cougars added their fourth run of the night in the sixth inning. Antonio walked with one out and moved to second on Shore's fourth wild pitch of the night. The next batter hit a chopper to third that Ramon Morla misplayed as the ball skipped into left field off his glove. It was Morla's second error of the night and allowed Antonio to score and make it 4-2.

The LumberKings added a run in the eighth inning but could have had more. Jamal Austin walked to start the frame. Dan Paolini hit a rocket into the right-center gap that Julio Aparicio gathered and threw to the cut-off man Mateo, who turned and fired home to cut down Austin at the plate. LumberKings' Manager Eddie Menchaca disputed the call with home plate umpire Paul Clemons and was eventually ejected.

Ramon Morla followed with an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 4-3 but that's as close as they'd get. Kane County added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning and Rudy Brown retired Clinton in order in the ninth for his first save of the year. The two teams play the rubber match of the series on Friday night. Clinton sends right-hander Mayckol Guaipe (3-0, 3.96) to the mound and Kane County has yet to announce a starter. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
